fox123 Posted 3 September 2010 Posted 3 September 2010 Anyone an expert on fitting these? I brought a new one yesterday (just a cheapo job from Argos) and fitted it my self. I've put the connecters in where they should go, but it is keeping the electrics on in the car, effectively draining the battery without the key even in the ignition. Any ideas?
Zingari Posted 3 September 2010 Posted 3 September 2010 not easy without actually seeing it but ; it sounds like you have an "always live" battery feed going to the stereo, this is used for other things such as automatic aerials / security memory etc .and somehow this has got short circuited to the ignition feed . probably by a loop wire that should not be connected . so, using a test lamp , find out which wire is live all the time , and which one goes off and on with the ignition disconnect and insulate the one that is always live ; although you may now find that the radio will forget the preset channels sorry best i can suggest ps . this is a temporary measure until you get the wiring correctly wired
