The tragedy occurred on Friday at the family home in Glavicice, which is 200 kilometres east of Sarajevo in Bosnia-Herzegovina. The man detained for the shooting is the player's paternal grandfather. According to reports, the individual became involved in a fight with his son. In the midst of the struggle he went into the house and returned with a M-48 rifle, which he used to shoot his son in the chest. The dispute is believed to be over unresolved property issues. Milosevic's father is said to have died on his way to hospital, whilst the attacker was detained by local police. Savo Milosevic has released a statement to Serbian newspaper, Tanjug, asking for the media to show consideration and humanity to the family during this period of "unbearable pain." Milosevic and his relatives have also urged the media "to spare the family and give us time to cope with the tragedy so we can pull ourselves together". The Bijeljina born attacker played 102 times for his country, scoring 37 goals. He played club football in England, Spain and Italy for Zaragoza, Espanyol, Celta, Osasuna, Parma and Aston Villa.
