Barmby Gets Hull Job

Hull City have confirmed the appointment of Nick Barmby as manager on a permanent basis.

Barmby took over as Tigers caretaker manager in November after Nigel Pearson left the KC Stadium to manage Championship rivals Leicester City.

The former England international has impressed in his caretaker role, maintaining the club's bid for promotion and the club have decided to give him the job on a full-time basis.

The 37-year-old, who has ended his playing career to take up the managerial role, admits it is a huge honour for him to take charge of his hometown club.

"It is a great honour for me to become manager of my hometown club and I'm looking forward to the challenge," Barmby told the club's official website.

"Although it has been a big decision to call time on my playing career I have enjoyed my spell in charge so far, and am excited about continuing to work with a talented group of players.

"It is a great honour for me to become Manager of my hometown club and I'm looking forward to the challenge."

"It goes without saying that both myself, and the backroom staff that we have in place, will be working hard to ensure success."

Hull City's head of football operations Adam Pearson was delighted to appoint Barmby and feels he can lead the side to success in the second half of the season.

"We are delighted that after a period of negotiation Nick has committed his future to the club as manager of Hull City on a full-time basis," noted Pearson.

"In his short spell as caretaker manager Nick has already had a positive impact on the team, and his decision will provide a real boost as we go into the second half of the season."
