CasinoGee Posted 11 July 2005 Posted 11 July 2005 How the books have become so popular is beyond me. They're mediocre to the extreme and rowling rips most of her ideas off Wizard of Earthsea.

CasinoGee Posted 11 July 2005 Posted 11 July 2005 I know! You'd think that if you were to rip off someone elses ideas you'd atleast be able to make them better, but no, rowling manages to drag them down to averageness.
rossporterlc Posted 11 July 2005 Posted 11 July 2005 then how come her books are much more successful?
EmLeee Posted 11 July 2005 Author Posted 11 July 2005 ok found it . it says Is Dumbledore right when he explains that it means Harry was born to those who thrice defied him, as july ended, and was marked by Voldemort as his (V's) equal, and Harry has a power, and either Harry or Voldemort must die etc etc.. That's what it looks like but it can be looked at very differently, especially as the various 'he', him' and 'his' in it do not specify who they are referring to. For example, and this is a possibility.. "The one with the power to vanquish the dark lord approaches... born to [james and lily, frank and alice], born as the seventh month dies... and the dark lord will mark [harry] as [neville's] equal, but [harry/neville] will have power the dark lord knows not...and either [harry or neville] must die at the hand of the other, for niether [harry or neville] can live will the other survives..the one with the power to vanquish the dark lord will be born as the seventh month dies". so i think that means that Harry and Neville are equal and that's what the prophecy is referring too - it's pretty comlicated it kindda makes sense...
rossporterlc Posted 11 July 2005 Posted 11 July 2005 so the dark lord will die either way but either harry or neville must die to make this happen?
rossporterlc Posted 11 July 2005 Posted 11 July 2005 that's how it sounds to me, interesting, jk has said something about neville's involvement in the prophecy on her site
EmLeee Posted 11 July 2005 Author Posted 11 July 2005 yeh and WH Smiths isn't having a midnight openeing
CasinoGee Posted 11 July 2005 Posted 11 July 2005 then how come her books are much more successful? 136123[/snapback] Harry Potter is written for the masses. People who don't usually read will read them because they're easy, but they'll be too scared to try any other books so they'll never realise how average Harry Potter is.

CasinoGee Posted 11 July 2005 Posted 11 July 2005 The fact that it has sold 10s of millions of copies world wide kind of suggests that it should be written well. It doesn't say much about the earths population does it that a run of the mill children's book can sell so well?
rossporterlc Posted 11 July 2005 Posted 11 July 2005 most people would rather read for light hearted entertainment then some literary masterpiece
CasinoGee Posted 11 July 2005 Posted 11 July 2005 Depends what mood I'm in. At the moment I'm reading Artemis Fowl Then I'm reading Catcher In The Rye.
