FoxesAreBlue Posted 11 October 2012 Posted 11 October 2012 Ots a mission but the Great North Run is brilliant, it's in September so plenty of time for you to train.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 11 October 2012 Author Posted 11 October 2012 I know. Is it harder than other half marathon's? To hear people talk youd think so, but 13 miles is 13 miles
FoxesAreBlue Posted 11 October 2012 Posted 11 October 2012 I know. Is it harder than other half marathon's? To hear people talk youd think so, but 13 miles is 13 miles It does have long hills bit they are not all that steep, the GNR was the 1st half marathon I did and I didn't struggle too much, the second time I did it I was totally fine. I often wonder how much training those that moan actually do, in running circles it's regarded as an excellent beginner run because of the support you get from the locals and the quality of the 'extras' such as website training plans, medal, drink stations, Red Arrows display etc... Experienced runners often say they will never set a PB there because of the crowded field but do it because it's a special race and the atmosphere is so good. I think it's either one of, or is the biggest 1/2 in the world.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 11 October 2012 Author Posted 11 October 2012 So it's renowned for its popularity and event rather than difficulty? I did the Sheffield one nearly 10 years ago. Want to do one early next year, as local as possible. Lichfield is out the question- forest away!
Haydos Posted 11 October 2012 Posted 11 October 2012 Mate recently ran the GNR in a Buzz Lightyear costume. He's fairly fit but only trained for about 6-8 weeks and got on alright.

Want to do one early next year, as local as possible. Lichfield is out the question- forest away! I would say so yeah, like the London Marathon I would argue that it has changed from a running race where people happen to raise a lot of charity money - to a huge charity fun run that also happens to be a race. Nothing wrong with that, so long as you know that that is what it is. Its hugely popular and my first GNR was one of life's greatest highlights.
Bluefoxtim Posted 12 October 2012 Posted 12 October 2012 Subject to dates... Coventry Hinckley Mansfield Loughborough GNR Leicester (maybe full again?) Done all the above at least once before so might look at doing some more further afield.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 12 October 2012 Author Posted 12 October 2012 Hinckley or Loughborough would be ideal
Bluefoxtim Posted 12 October 2012 Posted 12 October 2012 Hinckley or Loughborough would be ideal Hinckley is well established but is a bit more of a club race. Loughborough debuted last year I think and should be this better this time as they have had the course officially measured.
