They're showing the extended US version at the little cinema across my road from Weds. Excited. Good film, very scary and atmospheric.

Stay away of the hard hallucinogens and you'll be fine.

I'll do what I want thank you!! I'm looking forward to it. Really keen to watch more 'classics' in a proper cinema/theatre. Dying to see some Hitchcock's on the big screen. I know BFI have been doing this but i'm too far away.

Simple fact is that the hotel owners of the real hotel Timberline Hotel (external shots) were worried that the original room number 217 would have a detrimental effect on room bookings, so they used a hotel room that didn't actually exist. Not sure why they used the specific number 237, but seeing that Kubrick had a penchant for mathematics and numerical and visual patterns, I'm sure there might be some significance to it.

Here's a blog on the number play aspect:

42 is used throughout the film. 2x3x7=42

Danny's jumper has a prominent 42 on it. The blog explains it better than i can.

Damn , is that all it is ?

Someone told me he changed it because he wanted to draw attention to the number 217 because the Eagle landed on the 21st July at 20:17 GMT.

You may want to review 2001 if you are looking for space conspiracies, though that film has zero to do with space.

Nah , all that stuff goes right over my head .

Don't get me wrong , I'm interested if someone points these things out and I find it really fascinating , but I can't pick up on these things myself .

I'm just amazed at how much time and trouble people will go to to look for hidden meanings , messages , possible conspiracies etc

I'm very glad they do though because it's fascinating stuff and I enjoy looking at it and trying to see what they are trying to get at .

I must admit though all that "SHONE" messaging lost me a bit , but I'll try again if I get the chance.

Well, I don't really understand the use of the word 'SHONE', if that's what it is, though there's no denying its existence and raising the question why it's there.

The Gold Room analysis and the 'old photo' makes it a fascinating rewatch just on that basis, and of course relavant once again due to our current finance quagmire. Looking back at history and seeing the previous greedy shits and how history repeats itself is eerie enough, as the film deals with repetition as a theme, one might say ghosts are set to relive their darkest moments over and over but never learn from their mistakes.
