Improving atmosphere and moving seats

Been noticing a lot of folk talking about moving back to the kop in a bid to improve the atmosphere. Without wanting to sound pessimistic I rweally don't think any amount of groups or individuals moving back to the kop from L1 is going to improve things.

People who want to sing will be spread out in groups of 3 or 4 all over the kop as in the last few seasons and when attempting to sing will be faced by lots of families, ids etc who look rather bemused about whats happening. I reckon the problem is that lots of people like the sound of being in 'the kop' but dont want to join in with the singing themselves.

One option would be to try and get the foxes trust to lobby the club in order to designate an area of maybe 200-300 seats (similar size to pen 1 at old filbo) where former crazy Kop corner folk could congegate and create an atmosphere section. With a group this large, making plenty of noise, I think that others around the ground (particularly elsewhere in the kop) would join in much more.

Obviously this would have some potential problems with fans currently in the proposed 'singing' section not wanting to move seats. The club could perhaps advertise the idea throughout the forthcoming season giving plenty of notice for those concerned ready for the 2006-07 season. It will also give opportunity for L1 people to get used to the idea.

Could the trust come up with a questionnaire asking people where they currently sit and whether they weould be interested in moving to, or away from, a potentila singing section.

If you count all the singers in L1 and all the pockets of 4 or 5 people in the kop, I think we would have the potential amounht to start turning the crisp bowl into a football ground that isnt mocked by every set of visiting fans and has a great atmosphere!

What do others think?

i sit in the kop, and i think the kop sucked last season, there was the right hand side (looking at the goal) who sang alot, but their are alot of old supporters sitting in the kop now, i think we should do something about it!! :P even when we cahnt ''stand up if you love leicesterr!!'' the old people dont want to irritate there arthuritus in their back, so they stay seated :(.

maybe we could get a group together for next season to all go down together and get tickets next to each other, i think it would be a big group tbh, and its the kop for me tbh ;)

Well that is basically the only way the atmosphere will improve from what it is now, laughable and utterly embarrasing. It will never happen though. I'm not convinced the club care about the atmosphere at all, even though they should. I'm pretty sure we'd have converted the two draws into wins that we needed to stay up two seasons ago had we had an atmosphere like at filbert street.

Probably too late now to suggest this for this season, would have been better as an idea prior to season ticket renewal & the question could have been asked within the renewal letters.

Have kept the idea on file to raise at the time we feel it will get the most positive response

Correct - However when I talk of moving to the cop it is to improve the atmosphere for myself

IE: I found the atmosphere in L1 to be particularly unpleasent

wasnt suggesting singing section as an idea for this coming season foxes trust. Just thought you could do survey during the season to see what people would want. I personally have just moved away form the kop into L1 for fothcoming season but would be more than happy to move back if singing section were introduced for 2006-07. Would take a real effort from club aswell as fans to make it happen. reckon there'e enough fans fed up with current atmosphere to make such an idea work. Surely bnringing the old pen1 and 2 group back together isnt impossible?

Right, well that sounds more realistic. More likely to happen if we asked for it in the Kop, no chance in L1, bet the Safety Advisory Group would block it.

Have just checked with the Burnley Trust how their experiment with a singing section went...

"Well, there seemed to be less of an inclination to sing because of the poor performance. It was two blocks and they were making some considerable noise.

We have a safety officer at our club who is very much against anyone standing at all and the whole thing was organised whilst he was on holiday (sounds fimiliar!). I am told though that they came to an agreement that they would be somewhat more lenient on the night and as long as there weren’t any long periods of standing they would accept it. Sadly there were some young kids who managed to get seats at the back of it who were chucking stuff and making a nuisance of themselves.

But the club generally seemed happy with it was a ‘One match only’ event although it could, happen again. It was never repeated and there didn’t seem to be much call for it to be repeated"

But, we do have a large ammount of fans who would love to sing thier hearts out, its just people around them just sitting their puts them off. People may say this isnt true but it is, because towards the start of the season u get the odd bloke get um and say ''cmon!! get off your asses!! what you doin'' hes usually drunk and stumbleing over his seat but still, thats the last you see of him for a while, we need to all get on our feet.. no matter where we are sitting, they wont be able to tell 10,000+ people to sit down... aslong as we arent just standing around like idiots and actually sining our hearts out, i think it could do the teams spirit well :P

I agree that the club would never allow singing section to be place in L1 but the kop (perhaps F1 back 15 rows) they may consider. Reckon the stewards would have to be more relaxed than in L1 though. Sometimes folks would need to stand for a period of time to get some constant backing and banging on perspex at back of ground going. Used to be really loud in pen 1 when people beat a rythm on steel sheets at the side. Do foxes trust think that club would ever consider this. Does anyone inside the club actually care about the atmosphere?

The atmosphere, or lack of, was an issue raised at the open meeting by both Tim Davies and Andrew Neville, so yes someone at the club does care.

To be honest, I'm not a fan of 'singing sections'; when we travel to games and there is a group in a corner singing, and yet the vast majority of supporters are sitting mute does look pretty silly to me.

Perhaps I am too optimistic, or stupidly naive, but I would hope that if enough people sing, then others will eventually join in. To say that this hasn't happened isn't strictly true, take that 10-15 minute spell at home against Wolves for example; it can be done. However, I think the performance on the field has a lot to do with the fans perfomance off it. If we start the season off playing great football, and picking up results, I'm sure the atmosphere will improve without any relocation etc.
