Gear I'm not an expert at,but I have caught pike on lures in the winter of rivers.its quite good actually as they are lethargic ,travelling light and moving location you can cover a lot of water,rather than being in one position.Also because it hasn't been that cold the water temperature is still warm so they are still active.Good feeling when catch on a lure though .Think Col does a bit also.good luck,keep us posted.

Have you fished for pike before?

I've done a spot of winter piking this week, just on the canal where I live.

I prefer to use spinners/lures in the winter as I roam around. Its just too cold to sit for long.

There was a bit of activity and splashing about. Got no pike but a bloody perch took the spinner. 2 and a half pound. Nice fish.
