oxford blue Posted 21 August 2013 Posted 21 August 2013 Obituary of Dave Wagstaffe in my paper today - died 2 weeks ago. Probably the best winger never to get an England cap, I always enjoyed seeing his speed and directness down the left wing. I always remember him as a Wolves player but I hadn't realised he made 162 appearances for Man City before moving to Wolves. Apparently the most he ever earned was £80 a week - at his peak he'd be worth another three zeros on that. He was transferred to Blackburn in 1976 after 400 appearances for Wolves where he made his name in an unfortunate way - the first player in England to be shown a red card; I'd forgotten that.
PetesPicturePalace Posted 21 August 2013 Posted 21 August 2013 Attached is a photo of Dave playing for City. I love this one as it shows perfect technique and illustrates why he had such a great club career.
