Soar Fox Posted 29 August 2013 Posted 29 August 2013 Both have different 'kops' too. Your dad didn't half tell you a lot about his tour round the San Siro.
Jimothy Posted 29 August 2013 Posted 29 August 2013 Two years later, as on the tour. They refer to the ground always being called the Giuseppe Meazza. Only repating what tour guides have said. Also all road signs to the Stadium are Giuseppe Meazza & not the San Siro Milan's website says it wasn't given Giuseppe Meazza's name until March 3rd 1980, a good 55 years after it opened. Tons of stadiums are known by different names than the official one that will appear on road signs etc. Whether that be for sponsorship reasons, or just that its commonly called something else by 99% of people. Upton Park has already been mentioned, as has Filbert Street. Highbury was actually called the Arsenal Stadium. How many people, even officials called it that? It was never called that in any news reports, on tv, or even by Arsenal staff. It was always called Highbury It might officially be called the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium, but lets be honest it is really called the San Siro. If isaidno has started a thread on the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium, most people wouldn't have had a clue which stadium he was on about.
blueblood88 Posted 30 August 2013 Posted 30 August 2013 Go on the tour. The Stadium has and always will be called. Stadio Giuseppe Meazza. Lets not be anal. All he is saying is football stadiums get called by different names! When do you EVER hear the San Siro get referred to as Stadio Giuseppe Meazza?? It's exactly like he said, We called it Filbert Street, the media called it Filbert Street, away fans called it Filbert Street, when actually it was called The City Stadium. Just like everyone calls West Ham's ground, Upton Park. When actually it is called The Boleyn Ground, and so on and so on.
