stockyfox Posted 8 March 2014 Posted 8 March 2014 As you may have heard on RL's 'Bootroom' last Thursday, April 11th will see the launch of 'The Colin Appleton Story'. Written by Steve Adamson, the book will cost £10 including p+p. Colin, 78 yesterday, spent 12 years at Filbert Street and was one of our greatest and much respected players. Recommended to City by Reg Halton, himself a former Captain of the team, Colin made his City debut v.Man City on Sept 4th 1954, going on to making 333 appearances in total and scoring 22 goals. He will be remembered by those who saw him play, for his contribution to the 1957 Championship success.. By 1959, he had established himself in the No 6 shirt and was virtually an ever-present in the team for the next five seasons, missing out on only eight matches during that period. On Boxing Day 1962, he took over the captaincy from Jimmy Walsh. Leyton Orient were thrashed 5-1, the start of a record-breaking run of 16 games undefeated, which included 10 successive victories, earning the City the title of 'Ice Age Champions'. A fitting tribute as to how much he was respected may be appreciated by the quality of players that featured in the All Stars XI team for his testimonial match on 29th April 1964 with Tom Finney on the right wing, John Charles at Centre-half and Bert Troutmann in goal. Further details can be obtained by contacting Steve Adamson on [email protected]
