davieG Posted 21 December 2004 Posted 21 December 2004 according to the Scotsman: Robbo waits for Levein's Maybury bid PAUL KIDDIE HEARTS boss John Robertson is bracing himself for a bid from Leicester City for full-back Alan Maybury. The Republic of Ireland internationalist is out of contract in the summer and former Tynecastle manager Craig Levein is preparing a January raid for the player he brought to Gorgie from Leeds United. Maybury’s career has flourished since his move to the Capital in October 2001, the defender having now established himself as a regular member of Brian Kerr’s Irish squad. Levein is a huge admirer of the gritty Irishman’s qualities and Robertson would find it difficult to ignore a bid of £50,000 from the Championship hopefuls. Levein is understood to have earmarked Maybury as one of his prime targets once the transfer window opens in a matter of days and the Dubliner will find it almost impossible to resist linking up with the man who helped to salvage his career. Meanwhile, Hearts have announced they have sold their entire ticket allocation for the derby against Hibs at Easter Road. Fans snapped up the remaining briefs for the showdown on Sunday, January 2, within hours of a public sale yesterday, all 3600 tickets having been sold before lunchtime.
Mark Posted 21 December 2004 Posted 21 December 2004 Find it hard to reject a £50,000 offer? Either they are desperate for cash or he isn't that good, thats nothing. Is he out of contract soon?
Scow Posted 21 December 2004 Posted 21 December 2004 He's supposed to be a right back, but has been equally as good at left back apparently. May be seen as a way of filling in the left back role, allowing Stewart to play left wing.
alijambo Posted 21 December 2004 Posted 21 December 2004 Alan maybury has been an outstanding player for the hearts for the last few seasons and i for one hope he doesn't leave. While he has been playing left back for us for the last 2 years thats really because we haven't had anyone else who could play there. He has played very well at left back but he is an outstanding right back who charges up and down the wing for fun delivering great crosses where playing left back you loose that part of his game as he always cuts inside rather than trying to beat a player to the byline. Glad to see craig has done a good job so far for you but until he gets the chance to shape his own team progress may be slower than you would like.

By the way what's with the £50k is that realistic, are things really that bad, what about your sugar daddy? Best of luck against Hibs, I see you've sold your full allocation of 3500ish (?).
alijambo Posted 21 December 2004 Posted 21 December 2004 Cheers for the good luck davieq the reason for the small amount mentioned for alan maybury is because he like another 12 or 13 players at hearts contracts run out in the summer. The take over by mr romanov has been put back until the 6th of february meaning that a lot of the out of contract players are getting nervous about there futures and as they have the freedom to sign a pre contract with a new club in january some may jump ship rather than wait to see if they may or may not get a new contract.
