lookwhaticando Posted 3 March 2007 Posted 3 March 2007 Vegetable Revelation One Did you know it's quite alright to fry Cabbage? 'tis true. Earlier this evening, I fried some broccoli, cabbage, onions and peppers to go with my chicken in Dijon sauce and rice. It actually worked rather well if I do say so myself. Chilli with a Difference: I'm a big fan of fajitas... I eat them regularly (not daily, you understand). Anyways... one night I'd had fajitas and there were a few tortillas left over. Tortilla's are quite serviceable for many a day if you stick them in the fridge once you've opened them. The following night, I was having chilli and rice... and I thought to myself "hey, wouldn't it be cool to put some of this chilli and rice inside a tortilla and eat it like a fajita?!" And thus Chilli fajitas were born. Delightful. I remember a few weeks ago, monk suggested a marvellous recipe for potato wedges... but has anyone else got some good food serving suggestions? No cranks please.

lookwhaticando Posted 3 March 2007 Author Posted 3 March 2007 Bubble & Squeak? Delia Smith makes even the easiest recipe complicated... I've found the perfect antidote - Gary Rhodes' Keeping it Simple. It's so simple it just consists of the ingredients list and a line like "stick it all in a bowl and cook at 200c for an hour" So I'm led to believe... I've not actually read it yet.
Rincewind Posted 3 March 2007 Posted 3 March 2007 Bubble and squeak used to be a regular culinary addition in our family when I was growing up. With five kids and not a lot of money coming in my Mother had to find economic ways to feed the hoards. Other delights included banana sandwiches, liver and onions, heart, stews made from scrag ends and would you believe it home made pies and paties. And we used to have puddings to follow. Home made apple pies with custard jam tarts and cream cakes. Jeez I miss my mums cooking. I have been reduced today to a take away cheeseburger and fries from Dixieland on London Road. Where have all the home-keepers gone, with the ability to produce a family meal at a wave of the hand with proceeds of the housekeeping money donated by the breadwinner of the house? I await the angry flak.
Webbo Posted 3 March 2007 Posted 3 March 2007 one of my favourite sandwiches as a kid was peanut butter and smoky bacon crisps.
cisono Posted 3 March 2007 Posted 3 March 2007 My cousin's favourite sandwich (imagine white Italian bread) was: - butter - sugar
