  2. Russell Martin Appointed Leicester City First Team

We are delighted to confirm the appointment of Russell Martin as Leicester City’s new First Team Manager.

Russell Martin confirmed as new Leicester City First Team Manager

The 40-year-old has signed a three-year deal with us

Former Scotland international has managed MK Dons, Swansea City, Southampton and Rangers

Russell, who has managed more than 250 games and combines extensive coaching experience with a playing career at the highest level of English football, has signed a contract until 2029 and begins work immediately as preparations continue for the 2026/27 campaign.

The 40-year-old has earned widespread recognition for his commitment to progressive football, player development and strong team culture during successful spells with MK Dons, Swansea City and Southampton.

Leicester City First Team Manager Russell Martin, said: “I’m delighted to be here and excited to begin working with the players and staff. This is a Club with great history, strong support and high expectations, and I’m looking forward to getting to know the Club, the city and the supporters.

“My immediate focus is on the team: building strong relationships, setting clear standards and creating performances that Leicester City supporters can connect with and be proud of.”

Leicester City Chief Football Officer Jon Rudkin said:“Russell’s appointment follows a thorough process and reflects the qualities that are important for Leicester City. He is a strong leader, a clear decision-maker and someone with a defined way of working.

“He understands the responsibility that comes with leading the team and he is well placed to help us move forward with purpose and direction.”

Leicester City Sporting Director James McCarron said:"Russell will be supported by a football structure focused on alignment, accountability and high standards. Our role is to make sure the right environment is in place around the team.

That means creating an environment where players and staff can perform at their best, strengthening the culture across the football operation and ensuring our work in recruitment, development and performance is aligned and consistent.”

Russell’s extensive playing career saw him make 579 appearances for the likes of Wycombe Wanderers, Peterborough United, Norwich City, Rangers, Walsall and MK Dons – with over half of those appearances coming for Norwich City.

His first managerial position was with MK Dons in November 2019 in League One, where his style of play earned many plaudits, leading to a move to Swansea City in the summer of 2021.

After two seasons in the Championship with the South Wales side, he joined Southampton for the 2023/24 season – which included a club-record 25-game unbeaten run that ultimately led to promotion to the Premier League.

They tried he was too good

Someone should have taken man and ball.

    We were too nice.

If we’d have a midfielder like Vinny Jones in that team, he wouldn’t have scored it.

Which goes into my unpopular opinion, which is you can’t compare a Pele, Matthews, Puskus, Best etc to a Messi or Ronaldo. This is what people forget about different football eras.If they’d had access to the level of elite training and today’s rules, they’d play different. The game is different now.

As an addendum, from the Beeb article on this topic, a line stood out:

UK intelligence believed "there could be an attack by Russia on Nato as soon as 2030. One senior defence figure told me that if that were true, "then we should be doubling spending"

If this is true, all the money in the UK treasury, Fort Knox and the Federal Reserve bank wouldn't stop such a conflict from inevitably ending with the losers being everyone.

A all out war between Russia and NATO would effectively end the world. You could see Putin firing nukes and NATO would retaliate.

    No one wants that.

I got that impression as well from this, purposely pointing out they are a league 1 team

A trip to face Burton Albion follows on Saturday 18 July, with the squad visiting Pirelli Stadium for a 1pm kick-off against the League One side.

Do the twats realise we are in League 1 as well?

    Have they realised yet?

Been covered before, but I don't disagree. Different types of players. Technically I don't think there's much doubt about that statement. Izzet was glorious, but Tielemans is probably the most gifted I've seen in a Leicester shirt along with Mahrez. The regularity of his elite level screamers, the superb passes and the way he would dictate tempo alongside Maddison when we were a good side... Those first couple of seasons under Rodgers were the most pleasing from an entertainment point of view, IMO.

Lennon and Izzet were probably better allrounders with their combative 'British' styles and will understandably be held in high regard by Leicester fans.

Yes, you’ve nailed my opinion on them. Savage as well complimented that combative style really well, as a three centre mids they must have been a nightmare to play against.

    GK - Schmeichel - Denmark

    LB - Fuchs - Austria

    CB - Huth - German

    CB - Morgan - Jamica

    RB - Ricardo - Portugal

LM - Jeffrey Schlupp - Ghana

    CM - Kante - France

    CM - Tielemans - Belgium

    RM - Mahrez - Algeria

    FW - Okazaki - Japan

    FW - Vardy - England

Could have gone Gray for Jamaica left Midfield. Left side attack is the most difficult to fill really. Controversial call but Tielemans is a better player than Izzet and Lennon. He’s shown it since, people just don’t like how it ended with us.

A worst XI is much harder to do.

    GK - Hirschfield - Canada

    DL - Gilbert - Wales

    DC - Ngotty - France

    DC - Laursen - Denmark

    RB - Neilsson - Scotland

    LM - Low - Wales

    CM - Lewis - England

    CM - Tiatto - Australia

    RM - Kiebi - Iran

    FW - Sappleton - Jamica

    FW - Daka - Zambia

That will be massively reduced with a relegation reduction surely.

You would think so, however Jon Rudkin was involved with sorting the contract ……. So ….

This is a tough grouping... I expect Panama to finish last, but Ghana and Croatia both could upend England...

Neither are the teams they once were in reality.

Ghana haven’t won an international match since October last year, and haven’t won in the last 6 matches. They didn’t even qualify for the 2025 AFCON.

Croatia are a funny one, they aren’t the team they were, however still have the tools and experience to be an issue. This game is the toughest in the group for England.

I completely forgot he wasn't allowed to play in Italy. Makes things even worse considering there are different rules elsewhere regarding the same serious medical issue.

Tbh if I was a footballer I wouldn't be comfortable playing against or alongside Eriksen knowing his medical problem. How can you even tackle or put under pressure a player like this?

Yes, I know some sports is a practically an outright no if you have an ICD fitted. Mainly physical ones such as hockey, rugby, combat sports etc

The ICD has worked as intended, however, however I’d imagine he’ll undergo another round of tests to understand what triggered it to work, before any decision is made on further involvement in sport.

    Sad for his family.

Strangely, it made me think of Kasper and his response last time.

  11. King Power 2025 finances have hit DBD Warehouse. Think Companies House in Thailand.

    https://datawarehouse.dbd.go.th

    The registration number is 0105539024396

It gives an indication of the state of King Power at least.

This is the direct link to KIng Power Duty Free.

    https://datawarehouse.dbd.go.th/company/profile/50105539024396

It makes for an interesting read and highlights what many people thought.

    Revenue shrunk.

Looks like they’ve cut costs and improved cost management to improve gross profit.

Debt is destroying that extra profit though, suggesting they’re financed to the hilt and interest is burdening them, as they’re making a net loss.

    They are owed more money.

    Inventory has dropped.

Short term debts rose, long term debts dropped.

They have a severe liquidity and debt crisis.

  12. Joining Arsenal to then get loaned straight out isn’t ideal in my opinion. I’d maybe want some time around the club and get to be coached by them.
