The defeat to Italy shouldn’t have happened, and Southgate should have gone afterwards. That game was so poorly managed, just has was yesterday’s. I’m optimistic but even I realise that Southgate isn’t going to suddenly change his style. How he is still manager I don’t know, I don’t think many would be happy if their club appointed him.

The worst thing about it is you already have Trippier having to play on the left side, in an unfamiliar position so the whole side of that pitch doesn’t have any natural players. It’s unbalanced and doesn’t work. Southgate really does frustrate me, when we went 1 up for some reason we again started to sit back, thankfully rice guehi and stones looked composed enough for us to not really have major problems. Against better teams though we don’t get away with it

Bellingham can play there and then you can have Foden in the 10 role… with Gordon out left it would be far better balanced. No need to shoehorn players into unnatural positions

The truth is you aren’t playing him ahead of foden so how do you fit him in… we had this issue with scholes, gerrard and lampard… it’s a good one but you don’t want to be effecting the whole balance of the team. Plus I don’t want to see TAA in that role either that didn’t work for me. It wasn’t a surprise that we held the ball better in midfield once Gallagher was on.

If you want to get into international management England are a great choice, talent throughout and a chance to make history with one of the biggest underachievers. I don’t think there would be a lack of suitors if Southgate falls flat again.

At euro 96’ we didn’t play well until the Dutch game the 3rd match in the group.. just need to improve and for me we can only get better from here

Well could have been worse that is for sure. Be happy with winning the first game and getting the 3 points.. not easy to start a tournament
