But Cifuentes says Alves will get his chance this term, and so he could be in the matchday squad for the Carabao Cup first round at Huddersfield on Wednesday (7.45pm kick-off). “I’m very happy with Will,” Cifuentes said. “He’s had a very good pre-season. “It’s my responsibility that he didn’t play any minutes against Fiorentina unfortunately, but that’s one of the consequences when you have such a big squad. “He’s doing well. I like his dynamism, his capacity to play in between the lines. He can play on the wing as well if we need a certain kind of winger. “I want him to be here and I’m sure he will get minutes to show his quality.” Alves came up through the ranks as a central attacking midfielder, but was used out wide by Cardiff last term. That’s also the position in which former City boss Ruud van Nistelrooy saw his future. However, in Cifuentes’ system, Alves is more likely to be used centrally, and so would be a rival to the likes of Bilal El Khannouss and Louis Page. He would only be used as a winger in certain circumstances. Cifuentes added: “It depends on the system, not the formation, but sometimes you might have a winger that you want to come inside, and that’s something he can really do. “If it’s to play more in a wide role as a winger, perhaps his best position, in my opinion, is more central. A role that’s about having an influence in central channels, that’s more appropriate for him.”

Souttar is out until the end of the year though Like @Ric Flair said, I think we should be looking at getting a centre back in on loan (ideally with an option / obligation) so then once we get to January, and we will hopefully know if Souttar is going to be suitable enough, we can look to get rid of one of Faes / Vestergaard
