  1. This is from his last season at Saints 🤷
  2. Ah, at last. Been waiting for that. Well done, sir, keep up the good work 🤡
  3. Well, his passing was a very important and highly valued aspect of his game when at Saints - in the Prem. Defensively he struggled when the team struggled and will always be exposed on the counter.
  4. Haven’t seen any apologists around here, just more and less nuanced takes. I’m not at all confident he’ll be good enough for us in the prem, but I can’t rule it out either. Some players can shine under one manager and crumble under another - and Brendan didn’t excel at man management to say the least.
  5. He’s right, though. Some of us have asked several times how Vesty has managed to be a starter in the Bundesliga and Premier League for most of his career if he can’t defend? The very least you might expect from ppl writing him off next season is an explanation, but most just repeat the same unfounded claims, seemingly without reading the other posts here - what’s the point of posting here if you don’t want to debate?
  6. But is the difference really that big for a keeper? He’ll face more shots and better players, but we already know that he’s a great shot stopper - a great save is a great save no matter what. I’d imagine that his position is the one that requires the least adaptation.
  7. Yeah, I think Vesty will turn out to be a solid ball playing center back for us next season. I also think that he’ll get exposed at times due to his lack of pace and some risky passing, which will get some fans to slate him off even though it will be the calculated cost for our style of play
  8. Judging from his stats at Southampton he wasn’t a bad defender at all. Here for example his first season with them https://fbref.com/en/players/1900032e/scout/1889/Jannik-Vestergaard-Scouting-Report His passing, though, wasn’t great, probably due to the way they played. I’d like to see him play some matches for us against PL opposition before writing him off. He’s an experienced player now and I’m confident that Maresca knows how to utilize his strengths. edit: and here his stats from his last year in Germany: https://fbref.com/en/players/1900032e/scout/1634/Jannik-Vestergaard-Scouting-Report Tell the opposite story - suggest he’s more like prime DeBruyne going forward, but can’t tackle if his life depended on it. Though, he’s still very good at intercepting and other defensive actions.
  9. That’s a lot of “ifs”. And he’s played against his share of international forwards in his career. Also, he’s not brainless and will adapt his passing accordingly. Don’t know why you think he’d go missing and blaming others? I’d not worry about his mentality or football intelligence, but whether he can defend properly when we will have much less possession than now in most games. My point was, though, that I don’t see how anyone can tell for sure that he won’t be good enough for PL atm. He might and might not, but we’ll really have to see.
  10. I’ve yet to see a good answer from all those who think he’s nowhere near PL level to this question: If that’s true how did he manage to get the career he’s had in the Bundesliga, the PL and now as a standout defender in the division below? Maybe it’ll turn out that he’s not good enough, but it’s certainly not possible to say at the moment, is it?
  11. Two things would raise the quality of threads like these: 1. People read just a tiny bit about how statistics work, especially sample sizes and outcome bias. 2. People stop making football forums an outlet for their general frustrations in life.
  12. Wasting my time here most probably, but I’ll try once more - you implied that I didn’t think we lost the win when I said “making a draw” as if I meant that we “made a draw” with a positive connotation. That wasn’t what I said or meant, though, as the phrase “making a draw” referred to the former sentence about our position in the league. If you meant something else with you post, then I’ll be happy to hear it. Sure, we should’ve won. Fact is though that in football, teams quite often do not win games they ought to win if you look at the overall performance, because it’s a low scoring game. And the fact that we’re quite comfortably leading the league shows that we have been quite good at winning our games.
  13. I didn’t say that we “made a draw”, I said that our position in the league “makes a draw better for us than for them”. But you knew that, I’m sure. You can write all the nonsense you want, would just be nice if you stop calling other posters’ opinions embarrassing.
  14. Talking about embarrassing posts. How do you know that the poster you’re replying to only factors in basic stats? It’s weird. We’re 7 pts clear of Ipswich making a draw a much better result for us than for them. Then fans moan that we’re not clinically enough, which typically is a way of saying “I don’t get football” - it’s a low scoring game which means that you’ll see the team playing better draw or lose much more often than say basket. That’s how it works. Now, we’re still comfortably number 1. Let’s be positive and not sound like Man U fans, shall we?
  15. I agree that he was inconsistent - but I don’t see anybody here claiming he is as good as Mads for example. What I see is people saying he’s much better than Ward (which is true), and a discussion about him being good enough for the PL. For me the big question is how anyone can claim he’s a League One player at best, when he’s already played in this division for a season where he was player of the year and arguably among top 2 keepers.
  16. Yeah well, throw Mads into the same chaotic crisis with relegation looming and he might have had some bad games as well. Nobody’s claiming he didn’t make mistakes or were great in every game. I’m baffled how many people think they can judge Iversen (or any other player) so quickly and don’t even bother to look at his year at Preston - he was great there and that’s nothing to do with Ward.
  17. Weird post. Yes, he’s not great with his feet as everyone agrees, but he pulled off some incredible saves, just like he did regularly at Preston. He was thrown in to save us in a crisis as a young keeper and made some mistakes, but he’s clearly an impressive shot stopper.
  18. Incredible that some people still don’t understand how modern goalkeeping works. If you’re a possession based side the pros of playing out from the back outweighs the cons if your keeper is good enough with his feet. The occasional mistakes will lead to fewer goals against than the many attacks he starts will lead to goals for. Hope Iversen will thrive at Stoke - he’s a brilliant shot stopper and still quite young.
  19. Indeed, it’s bad sporemanship. Let’s hope we never sign Lamella!
  20. Decent? Really?
  21. What’s amazing is your eagerness to dump one-liners instead of debating. I’m genuinely curious - how can we know that he wouldn’t make it in the prem when he’s played there and in the Bundesliga for years and are doing well now?
  22. He’s played 82 PL games and 185 in the Bundesliga. It’s not like he hasn’t shown anything at a high level before
  23. I wonder how those who think he won’t make it in PL explain his career before we bought him? Not that I’m certain we won’t need an upgrade, but to rule him out entirely seems a little premature
  24. This. You need a better answer than “he’s gotten older and slower” if you want to look credible when claiming he is a bad defender. Else you’ll just look like one big cognitive dissonance.
  25. Kasper’s son must be around 13 now. Keep Mads for 5 years, then get the new Schmeichel
