  1. If they're going for the cheap option it would be nice to know it's because they're still going ahead with the expansion and therefore don't want to waste money and time on something that will not be in use for long.

  4. History of Leicestershire in Images Mervin Wallace · A lovely period photo of Castle Street in Hinckley about 1923. Allsopp's Pork Butchers eventually was to move onto Regent Street. The family were well-known for their pork pies and Edward Allsopp was one of the leading members of the local Salvation Army, doing much to further their cause in the town.
  5. For now yes but I'd like to think his skills will eventually prevail.
  6. I think hie original role was Club Secretary but it seems everyone is either a Director, Executive or Manager these days.
  7. He's an attacking midfielder not a winger, he's playing there for Cardiff for a number of valid reasons I'd have him over Soumare he'd at least look like he was awake and interested.
  8. Made me laugh. Nature and Animals · Follow This excellent photo was taken by photographer Aditya Permana of this tiny forest dragon lizard, after observing the creature for over an hour. The little reptile looks totally relaxed as it lies back and holds the leaf as if it were a real instrument, playing the guitar, its tiny claws even curled up as if it were plucking the strings. 9. Sheffield United criticise Hamza Choudhury against Bristol City Sheffield United currently top the Championship table under Chris Wilder but only by a single point after dropping two against Bristol City. Choudhury played the full ninety minutes as a defensive midfielder alongside Sydie Peck, and some fans weren’t impressed by his display. “Choudhury and peck just walking about,” one fan wrote while another replied: “Peck & Choudhury need to step it up a level second half.” “Peck doing the job of two men. Choudhury strolling around giving it big licks. Got zero desire to get forward and join an attack. Exactly the same at Luton,” a third pointed out. “Midfield is being overrun because Choudhury is spending most his time stood next to the CBs, when he does step up he follows Peck like a lost puppy!” someone else exclaimed. “Worst player on the pitch, you’re in the minority if you think otherwise,” a sixth offered a scathing review of Choudhury while a seventh commented: “I have to be honest I’m really not sold on Choudhury he can get a foot in but can’t play a pass more then 5 yards.” Choudhury’s stats vs Bristol City Choudhury has never been known for his ball-playing skills, as he’s more of an old-fashioned defensive midfielder, whose primary role is to win possession back and lend it to the more creative players. Against the Robins on Tuesday night, the Bangladesh international completed plenty of work without possession but his quality on the ball was lacking, as shown by his statistics from the match. Hamza Choudhury’s stats against Bristol City 90 minutes played 64 touches 37/43 (86%) accurate passes 0 key passes 0 dribble attempts 5 interceptions 2 tackles
  10. I think I'm shouting bring it down more this season than I have in the last ten so many aimless headers as well. They never seem to look where they are heading it. I guess it's down to a lack of confidence. I'm loving your thread and the one on https://www.thefosseway.net/viewpoint/leicester-city-1959-great-escape
  11. Hmm I'm suggesting he's probably more of a central player than a winger but just playing on the wing for Cardiff due to inexperience and match fitness.
  12. Is his best position on the wing. Maybe with greater fitness and acclimatisation to professional football will see him more involved centrally where he will see the ball more and can contribute more. Playing on the wing is a good place to achieve this.
  13. Aye but they're continually trying to earn a new contract and have families to support with mortgages etc. It's a totally different world to playing for the U21s
  14. Playing with players whose livelihood depends on how they do will be of great benefit
  15. In full Anger at Leicester City may give way to far more concerning emotion as first clues emerge A protest was held before Leicester City's Premier League fixture against Arsenal last month, but it at least showed there is still a lot of passion around the club ByJordan Blackwell 07:00, 12 MAR 2025 Fans hold up a banner in protest of the Leicester City hierarchy during the 2-0 defeat to Arsenal at the King Power Stadium (Image: Catherine Ivill - AMA/Getty Images) Protests are fuelled by anger, but that may not be the most concerning emotion for Leicester City to deal with. A few hundred City fans showed their unhappiness with the running of the club and the heights from which they’ve fallen when they marched on the King Power Stadium last month. In showing that emotion, they showed that they cared. And they still cared enough to attend the game. It would perhaps a greater concern for City if that anger was swallowed by apathy. If supporters fall out of love with the club to the extent they stop turning up, that is a bigger worry. There have been a few small hints at that. This year’s average home attendance is marginally the lowest it has been in the Premier League since City first returned to the division in 2014. But the difference, for now, is negligible and there have been lots of awkward kick-off times this term. But the game against Crystal Palace in January saw the attendance at the King Power Stadium drop below 30,000 for the first time in a Premier League match since 2014. It was a midweek night game, and they are usually less well attended, but it’s still a small marker of a very slight loss of interest. This weekend, City host Manchester United and anecdotally, there appears to be plenty of season-ticket holders, who haven’t seen a home league goal since early December, planning to sell their seats back to the club or not bother to turn up. A 7pm kick-off on a Sunday night will be a significant factor in those kinds of decisions but if a fanbase is invested, they will turn up whenever, especially for a game against a big club and one that looks like being significant in how the season pans out. It will be interesting to see if the chatter around supporters not turning up impacts the attendance this weekend. Where there is statistical evidence is for the Manchester City away game at the start of April. The original allocation for travelling Leicester fans has been reduced from over 3,000 to 1,500 based on the forecasted attendance. Then again, it is another midweek game. At the weekend, at Chelsea, City still took 3,000 fans. At the moment, these are very small signs of a loss of enthusiasm. It’s not yet at the point where it’s a concerning trend. If the apathy is significant, it will perhaps only be seen if the club drop into the Championship. Perhaps because the overriding emotion was still one of anger, City’s average attendance remained above 31,000 in the Championship under Enzo Maresca, 6,000 more than what it was when City won the second tier under Nigel Pearson 10 years earlier. Would it be the same if City go down again this time? It attendances did drop, that would be a far bigger concern for the club than a protest.

  21. Made In Leicester Graham Hulme An old postcard view of Granby Street, looking towards the Grand Hotel. The card was posted from Leicester on 31st October 1911. The row of old buildings seen on the left of the picture have been demolished. Among them is the premises of Robert Corton who was a boot and shoe maker. Next to it is a dyers and cleaners which was the premises of George Wright & Sons. Following the demolition of this block of buildings a new large department store was built on the site between Chatham Street and York Street which is now the city council’s Customer Service Centre. The new store was called Murray Davidsons which opened on 21st September 1938 (the building still has the initials MD on the metal rails in front of the upper windows). Large adverts for the new store appeared in local newspapers at the time, some with illustrations of the building. Despite Murray Davidsons promising start a Scottish furniture and furnishings store named James Grant & Co. had opened in the building by April 1939. Their adverts in local newspapers at the time boasted of 16 branches in the principal towns of Scotland. In August 1946 C&A’s first store in Leicester was opened in the Granby Street building, remaining there until moving to a new building in the early 1970s at the corner of Humberstone Gate and Charles Street, now the Primark store. The building seen on the opposite corner of Chatham Street still stands and was at the time of this picture the Leicester Co-operative Meat and Grocery Stores. The building seems to have been constructed around the mid-1880s and was possibly designed for the Co-op by their architect Thomas Hind (1838-1912) of Leicester who was the architect for the Leicester Co-operative’s Central Stores and Offices on High Street, built in 1884 - the frontage of which has been preserved. The two buildings have some similarities in style, particularly seen in the impressive groups of mullioned windows. A little further along, the Grand Hotel was built by Orson Wright (1853-1913) between 1897 and 1899 and reflects the pride and imperial self-confidence of those late Victorian days. Wright was one of Leicester’s most enterprising and successful builders and developers. He had great commercial foresight and was responsible for developing the South Wigston district, having bought the land, laid out the streets and built the houses, factories and hotels. He was also the owner of local brickworks and ironworks, as well as being an owner and manager of hotels. In addition, he became involved in local politics and public affairs. Orson Wright commissioned two local architects for the design of the Grand Hotel. That part of the building fronting Granby Street was designed by Cecil Ogden (1858-1944) and the Belvoir Street section of the building with its imposing corner tower was the work of Amos Hall (1858-1930), who also designed the Silver Arcade in Leicester around the same time. The Grand Hotel displays a very mixed Franco-German Renaissance style in brick and stone, with high, elaborate gables and turrets, adorned with urns, pediments and pinnacles. However, the stone corner tower is inspired by the 17th century English Baroque style and is reminiscent of the work of Nicholas Hawksmoor and Sir Christopher Wren, with its rotunda of open arcading crowned by a domed cupola. The first floor ballroom, with its large arched windows seen towards Belvoir Street, was originally called the King's Hall and was used as an early cinema.
