Scarby Posted 2 September 2005 Posted 2 September 2005 just tried loading up firefox and it wouldnt load but a box came up that said create new user on the left and the right was a screen saying default and connect to firefox however when i pressed connect it wouldnt so i created a new user and then pressed connect and this worked however in doing this i have lost all my bookmarks etc. and more importantly all my uni passwords!! does anyone know what happen and how to get back to the default 'user' to get my bookmarks back? thanks
Shum Posted 2 September 2005 Posted 2 September 2005 Mine asked if I wanted to copy my bookmarks accross. However, don't fret, your bookmarks will still be on the computer, usually in C:\Documents and Settings\username\Favorites To import your bookmarks, click bookmarks, manage bookmarks.... file, import...
Shum Posted 2 September 2005 Posted 2 September 2005 PS: Not sure it will copy your saved passwords over!

Depending on the setup, though. I have once before lost my bookmarks, although that was actually our tech support guy's fault (he didn't tell me that he'd upgraded Firefox). Good luck recovering yours!!!

I hope you are not referring to that.
Scarby Posted 2 September 2005 Author Posted 2 September 2005 well i got them back and it was afterward i upgraded yes!!! the whole thing crashed and wouldnt load then thats what i described above happened. And steven when my PC asks to remember passwords i click yes!! is that bad??? it saves time also keeps me logged on things. Shall i stop doing it
Steven Posted 2 September 2005 Posted 2 September 2005 And steven when my PC asks to remember passwords i click yes!! is that bad??? it saves time also keeps me logged on things. Shall i stop doing it That depends. If you feel there is a risk that someone might maliciously use it then do not use the IE feature. As a general security principle it is a bad practice as passwords should be keyed every time. Finally if you do key it in every time you will always remember the passwords.

Shum Posted 3 September 2005 Posted 3 September 2005 I save SOME passwords saved on my home pc as no one else has access to it. As a general rule do not save passwords on a public machine or your home machine if anyone else has access to it.
Hitesh Posted 3 September 2005 Posted 3 September 2005 Only have some passwords stored but i wouldnt advise saving any. Its too risky IMO. If need be, i will save them in a password protected document on your comp. I also had simliar problems when i upgraded Firefox and its still causing a few problems! Im not liking the new update!
cisono Posted 3 September 2005 Posted 3 September 2005 I only have unimportant passwords saved on my home PC... (usually) I don't save passwords on any other PCs. Then, ensure your antivirus and anti-spyware software are up to date and run scans regularly. It was worked so far.
