Puteolana and the ten man team

Not really a post for discussion but perhaps a curiosity for a few.

This is Ranieri's story of him as a rag tag manager, managing a semi pro impoverished team where he was the manager, landscaper and food pervayor for the team.

When Ranieri was managing Puteloana a small team in southern Italy he had a game in Sardinia against, as he called it the "Great Cagliari".

"I called it the great Cagliari, though it was at the time in Serie C (Italy's division 1) because we were such a small team that I barely had ten players, not even eleven".

"A friend of mine, who was an assessor for the Italian football league and who always gave me a hand, began to help me clean the pitch and told me ""look at those players (from Cagliari) they are ruining the pitch where the grass is growing"", I said ""be quiet they are sleeping, they've already lost the game and they don't know it...I don't want to wake them up".

"And we did win that game...Well it just so happened that the president of Cagliari was there and heard me. And when he decided to choose a new manager for the following season he told me that he remembered that incident and called me to offer the job (his first big break) and reminded me that story of our first encounter and our winning that game. That was the spring that began my carrier in earnest"

Below is the source of this translation (an interview in Italian). Posted in case one is curious of how Ranieri speaks in his mother tongue. (Note: he does have a very strong Roman accent...I know because I speak Italian in the same way ;). )

Thanks, I figured a couple might enjoy it. Unfortunately, there is so much more in that small documentary about his character that the English press knows nothing about. One is the strange fact he does not consider Abramovich a boogie man. He considers him a friend and said nothing but good things about him. He also said that the English philosophy of the British fan is the most impressive in the world. He said one of the last games of the season he was at Manchester City managing Chelsea. "As the man city team was walking out, the fans began to applaud their already relegated team. Grown men were crying and clapping their team. I still feel that emotional shiver thinking about it!" "That would never happen in Italy" "the English fan ""marry"" their team. They are so very loyal to it".

Watched the interview and although I didn't understand I just enjoyed the sights and the noise like a dog.
