foxinsocks Posted 29 June 2016 Posted 29 June 2016 The release clauses have the effect of setting a max on what the club can receive - anything above can be given to the player to entice him. I like the Liverpool anecdote; they are right in that players accept high wages in return for agreeing 4 year contract and then leave when it suits them. Even utd had to sell Renaldo when he wanted out (though they held him for a year). When clubs sign a player they should not agree to release clauses and they should pay say 30% of the player's wages as a loyalty bonus a the end of the contract period or when a new contract is entered into. But of course they have to compete with other clubs trying sign the player... so this might be a problem with top stars... but how did vardy or kante or mahrez end up with such?
Vardinhio Posted 2 July 2016 Posted 2 July 2016 In fairness I don't think anyone could have predicted a 20 mil release clause for Vardy would get activated
