Thracian Posted 12 October 2005 Posted 12 October 2005 If any of you fancy a decent restaurant meal for a genuinely sensible price why not try the Glebegate at the North Warwickshire College off the Longshoot (old A47) into Nuneaton. You'd have to ring the college to book but it's worth it. The restaurant is a training facility for catering students . The menu is small but constantly changing to give the students chance to try their hand at as wide a variety of dishes as possible (under professional supervision). We went for the first time last night to "a French Evening" - there's an American and, I think an Italian evening coming up, plus a nice-sounding Christmas meal. The cost was £8 a head for three courses and the food was terrific. Relaxed and pleasant setting, home made apricot and walnut bread and a wine list available (I chose a Chilean Merlot which was delicious). Worked out at £50 for four all in including wine and drinks plus a decent tip. A comparable meal at a Leicestershire Bistro recently cost over £260 for six. In marks out of 10 I'd have probably given the college one or two more than the Bistro. NB: The set-up means it is strongly advised to be on time. And booking is vital cos places are limited and customers return time and again. Cheers everyone. Enjoy yourselves.

cisono Posted 12 October 2005 Posted 12 October 2005 Sounds good £8 for a 3 course quality meal not bad. what were the portions like mate I get the impression the emphasis is on quality rather than quantity? I'd be happy with that
King Kyle lcfc Posted 12 October 2005 Posted 12 October 2005 But if you could have both it would be perfect
Daniel Posted 12 October 2005 Posted 12 October 2005 Would be a nice place to take the girlfriend as she lives nuneaton way?! Whens the american evening mate?

As Cisono gathered, the emphasis is on quality but one of the main courses, for instance, was a duck in a wonderfully tasty broth with vegetables. I had plaice with a delicate salmon filling (plus trimmings) and chose a French garnished salad to start and delightful tartlet with sauced iced-creams to finish. There wa as much of the newly home-baked apricot and walnut bread with butter as you liked and the wine was one of the best I've tasted. Everything was a first for my taste buds which I felt, was an advantage of the limited choices (about three in each section).

I think it starts next week - the French week continues for now - but ring to be sure and check their other plans. Understand the restaurant is open for lunches too. I never been but I gather half of Nuneaton pre-books these and as with the evening meals, return time and again.
