Back in my day etc. etc.

Fans in the 1920s were saying money's ruined football, as they have done in every decade since. The narrative of nostalgia changes little and tends to hark back to a golden past of various times, invariably coinciding with the authors' youth. The main thrust is a loss of purity, honesty or integrity and a lamentation of greed and other corrupting forces.

Its human nature to do this and age does it to us but don't confuse it with reality. Our past becomes our identity. We filter out the bad and retain the good because it makes us happier.
