Dickov

Dickov is proof that a footballer can be re-vitalised by moving clubs, he was never a prolific goal scorer until he came to us. Infact Micky and Corky have both said that Dickov isn't a natural finisher he's just worked so hard on that aspect with Corky and it's paid off. I would love Dickov back, but he's 31/32 and in the long term I am so glad he went and we got Connolly. It's all bollocks about Connolly can't play in a team that doesn't pass it, look at the strike rate he had for Wimbledon. West Ham were a passing team last season and he only scored about 10-15, so you could say he's better in a direct team. The fact is, hoofing the ball all the time is never going to be as successful as a flowing, high tempo passing style but I think in this league you have to mix it up.

Connolly has had lots of chances to score and if he'd put these away there would bo no question of the service he's getting, etc. He could of scored 5 or 6 goals already this season and that's without us even playing well, the key to Connolly starting tos core is when the team plays well which might be within the near future as the past two games is a foundation for us to build upon.

I think Conners will still get 20 goals this season, but he needs a hat-trick soon to get his goals to games ratio back on track.

2-0 on saturday, Connolly brace.

Wimbledon weren't actually that direct when he played for them - I think you're relying on that lazy stereotype.

At West Ham, Connolly was played out of position for alot of the season, so that's why he didn't get as many goals as expected.

I went both games in the 02/03 season against Wimbledon and they were very direct and passed the ball around no more than we do. Perhaps it's the effectiveness of the balls, because long ball isn't a bad style if it works and possesion is won by your team and not the opposition like it often is when we tend to play that way.

I actually thought Wimbledon played a better passing game than us in that 4-0 victory, funny as it may sound. The basis for Connolly's success was his partnership with Shipperley - I think Shipperely scored about 20 goals that season aswell, but they linked up very well. I don't think Connolly and Dublin have that understanding yet.....

He is there top goal scorer , why is he going to be in the reserves ?

It's nothing to do with the chances he's getting. He had a sitter that any of us here would be upset to miss against Sheffield, he hit the post twice with two easy chances against Watford, he missed a penalty against Derby, and he was inches away from scoring a brace against West Ham.

It's just a confidence thing and all he needs is one lucky goal off the shin or whatever and he'll be banging them in. Problem is, we can't afford to be still saying that after 15 games or whatever. C'mon lad, start this Saturday :D

I think Connolly is better than Dickov. The wee Scotsman was great to watch in a Leicester shirt but he was no clinical finisher and for all the free kicks he won he got himself in an equal amount of trouble. Connolly is more skilfull IMO and am sure he will come good.

As others have said he just needs a goalmouth scramble to go his way and hopefully he will start scoring for fun.
