MC Prussian Posted 19 November 2005 Posted 19 November 2005 Well, as some of you might know, I am currently studying Film Production at the Vancouver Film School VFS. Now, facing the 2nd round of our Midterm-Drama projects (2 more 10-minute short movies, this time shot in 16mm), we're already thinking about the Final Project round, the five final movies made before we finish the school in April. Ideas are rising and out of a total of 19 classmates, I'll face some serious competition. And although, I'm the only European (let alone the only Swiss ) here, I have no intention of giving up my hope of directing my own movie yet. So, we were told to think about proper ideas for an interesting short. Here's mine: 6th of December. Nine To Midnight. Little Tommy is waiting. Santa Claus still hasn't shown up. The stockings at the fireplace are empty. THe parents in bed. Tommy is slightly losing faith in Santa. CHANGE TO: Santa Claus and Black Peter have crashed with their sled and are in delay. Both make the other responsible for the incident. There's only one name left on Santa's long list: Little Tommy. So, how to get there before the magic hour ends at midnight? Santa Claus and Black Peter decide to steal a car. Turns out, stealing it is the easiest part. Driving it a bit harder. Especially when you don't know how to drive. To make matters worse for Santa, Black Peter is constantly interferring and complaining. Then a police officer shows up and pulls them over for speeding. Then they run out of gas which makes Santa use his Santa Card at the closest gas station. The owner can't believe it and calls the cops again. So, here we are, on the run for a second time tonight. Bottom line, both make it to Tommy's place, get him his candy and disappear into the night... How's that sound? And what story would you tell in 10 minutes (keeping in mind that 1 minute of film equals 1 script page)?
Lukeh Posted 19 November 2005 Posted 19 November 2005 Take it its a comedy? Im doing media and film in A level and i think i might be filming my own story soon...
Jay Posted 20 November 2005 Posted 20 November 2005 it sounds like a good idea to me Swiss you would need a loud ticking clock in the boys house for dramatic effect and maybe not a Santa Card but a normal credit card with the name Mr S Claus or Mr F Christmas on it and a redneck gas station attendant (looking a bit like a tramp) who thinks he's taking the pi55 and pulls a gun on him (I believe they like guns in Canada even more than Americans do!!!) while calling the police. (for health and safety reasons you may wish to drop the gun bit)
MC Prussian Posted 20 November 2005 Author Posted 20 November 2005 I just had the idea to make Santa's assistant, Black Peter, a real black guy. Plus, he's from Quebec, thus speaking French, so misunderstandings are pre-planned. Canadians know what I'm talking about... It's a comedy, yes, but it's also about the fact that the myth surrounding Santa is no longer attractive. People no longer believe in it. But you can't blame anybody, it's just when you hit a certain age, all the magic is gone and you become just like everybody else. And as for guns, we're not allowed to use even stunt guns on set due to safety reasons. But I think I'll have the gas station owner threaten Santa one way or the other.
MC Prussian Posted 21 November 2005 Author Posted 21 November 2005 a baseball bat? Something more Canadian maybe? Thinking about a hockey stick or so...
cisono Posted 23 November 2005 Posted 23 November 2005 If I had an idea for a short movie, I'd make the movie myself
