Ferguson never went stale because he constantly recycled his squad and moved on players even when they were still good (Stam, Beckham etc). Rodgers main players are players Puel signed. In theory Soumare should have pushed Ndidi to elevate his game or take his spot. Praet should have pushed Tielemans. Daka should be our main #9. Perez should be getting us 15+ G&A per season.

He also kept refreshing his coaching staff too. Different players and different voices from coaches: always evolving. Ferguson was the mastermind, the figurehead, the authority. But even the players he had for extremely long periods were getting new instructions and fresh approaches.

 

It's only natural for things to become stale over time if you're not going to change your own approach or be willing to allow your coaching staff to chase other opportunities or move them on and bring others in.

 

Normally it's cheaper to remove a manager than replace a load of players, which is why so many clubs do so. The trouble is removing Rodgers will cost us a bomb.

 

I'm sure Rodgers will go on to have a positive impact at another club but either he needs to go, or we need to refresh the coaching staff and/or the playing staff underneath him. But our current financial situation won't allow either situation at the moment, meaning we may be in for a long, hard season.
