To elaborate on this, our new CEO and DOF worked together at Beerschot for the past two years. The latter, Gyorgy Csepregi, built a team at Beerschot in second division with pretty much no transfer budget that in two years time won the league. However, they both felt that the possibilities at their club were fairly limited. Our CEO, Van Den Steen, was confirmed somewhere in April of this year and after Csepregi left Beerschot a little while later, we all knew what was going to happen. 

 

Gyorgy is nothing short of a miracle man in my opinion, with a lot of (previously sorely missed) ambition for the club. There's a club interview today with him, little over 20 minutes long, where he clearly states that the aim is (at least) a top eight finish. Which, in my opinion, should have been the ambition for the past two years, with the means at our disposal. Also very happy with him saying that in two weeks, they already start preparing the shortlist for January and the next summer in case anyone leaves, and that they already are looking to make contact with at least two Belgian players who's contract will run out next summer. 

 

Genuinely excited for this season!

Two individual error goals, and no efficiency on the other end. Missed one absolute sitter at 1-1. Not a good performance, but definitely better than the opponent. It's traditionally a difficult away game for us though, bone hard and old synthetic pitch which really doesn't suit our vertical play. That said, also a few key players completely absent today. Hopefully, we'll bounch back at home against Kortrijk this week, because the next five will be far more tricky: Gent away, Mechelen away, Antwerp home, Charleroi away an Club Brugge at home.

And again two points dropped while having by far the better chances.. Went behind after a foul wasn't given, from a deflected shot, but equalized almost instantly. We just can't finish the chances really, and we now have a very difficult five games coming up.

Do the 2 new strikers need to be given a proper go?

 

Looks like so far neither have even started yet?

Difficult to say. I think they need time to adapt, and from what I've heard especially Biron isn't the fastest at picking up the tactical stuff. Ikwuemesi will probably get his chance sooner or later, the main question is who Garcia would need to take off. Maertens (originally an attacking midfielder) is currently playing up front but is captain and probably our best player so it can't be him. Could take off Maziz but that would remove all creativity from central midfield.

Heavy 3-0 loss in Gent, 0,5 xG for both teams. We keep struggling to find the back of the net and we keep gifting idiotic goals to the opposition. And as much as I like Oscar Garcia, the fact that he flat out refuses to play a striker up front is starting to really get on my nerves.

Garcia now complaining about his strikers barely scoring in training. Someone may need to point out that his current starting eleven are barely scoring in games, and have conceded on average two goals per game in the last three. Gifted three goals to Gent yesterday from 0,58 xG for crying out loud.

An idiotic red after ten minutes to be fair, getting caught out on a long goal kick is one thing, then pulling the shirt as the last man is downright unforgivable.

Crisis meeting from our board since this morning apparently, because Garcia seems to have lost the squad. Something I already mentioned yesterday to a few mates, you could see it on the pitch as well.

No three points, but a very, very good performance today. Just need a day where it goes our way a bit more to really get the ball rolling again I think. Hopefully next week in Charleroi.
