city chasing lincoln defender

Gareth McAuley could still stay at Lincoln amidst interest from Leicester and Crewe.

The Northern Ireland defender will be out of contract at Sincil Bank during the summer and his representative, Mel Eves, has confirmed that The Foxes have expressed an interest in signing him once the transfer window opens.

But Eves also told skysports.com that it is not beyond the realms of possibility that McAuley could still stay with Lincoln, saying: "There's a lot to happen before he goes anywhere.

"He's happy at Lincoln but he's a very good player and he's definitely good enough to play at a higher level either with Lincoln or with somebody else.

"I've been in touch with [Lincoln manager] Keith Alexander and we'll probably know more about what's going on when the transfer window opens next week.

"We'll have to wait and see. Gareth's in the Northern Ireland squad but he wants to be in the starting line-up. He wants to look after his international career."

McAuley, who is also being tracked by Doncaster Rovers, joined The Imps from Coleraine for an undisclosed fee in August 2004 and has since established himself as a firm favourite with City fans, contributing five goals in 48 league starts for the club.
