We have added experienced shot stopper Dai Cornell to the Leicester City goalkeeping ranks on a free transfer, subject to league approval.

Dai Cornell joins Leicester City on a free transfer

The 35-year-old was most recently with Preston North End

He has signed a one-year contract

Former Wales Under-21 international brings extensive EFL experience

The 35-year-old arrives on Filbert Way having most recently spent four seasons with Preston North End, following previous spells with Peterborough United, Ipswich Town, Northampton Town and Oldham Athletic.

Speaking to LCFC.com, Dai said: “I'm delighted to sign and excited to be here. It’s a fantastic Football Club with a fantastic manager. I’m looking forward to getting started and helping in any way I can. Hopefully, together, as players, staff and fans, we can achieve what we want to achieve this season.”

Born in Swansea, Cornell progressed through the Academy at Swansea City and gained senior experience during loan spells with Port Talbot Town, Hereford United, St Mirren and Portsmouth.

He left Swansea for Oldham Athletic in 2015 before joining Northampton Town a year later, going on to make 108 appearances in all competitions during four seasons with the Cobblers.

Cornell was part of the Northampton squad that secured promotion from Sky Bet League Two in 2019/20 before moving to Ipswich Town that summer.

A switch to Peterborough United followed in 2021, with the goalkeeper making 32 appearances during his season at London Road, including 30 in the Sky Bet Championship.

He joined Preston North End in the summer of 2022 and spent four seasons at Deepdale.

A former Wales Under-21 international, Cornell has also represented his country at Under-17 and Under-19 level and will now link up with his new Leicester City team-mates.
