davieG Posted 27 September 2004 Posted 27 September 2004 Why does a can of Coke sink while a can of Diet Coke floats? Floating occurs because floating objects displace, or push aside, a certain amount of liquid. If an object displaces more than its weight in liquid, it floats; otherwise it sinks. Density (the mass per unit of volume) determines how much liquid is displaced. Density is usually compared to water, which is assigned a density of 1. Materials sink if (like regular Coke) they are more dense than water, while less-dense materials, like Diet Coke, float. It's assumed that it's the sugar in real Coke that makes it dense enough to sink. It's also assumed that it's the artificial sweetener in that diet version that's less dense, allowing those cans to float. Now You Know

Guest freund Posted 27 September 2004 Posted 27 September 2004 Do Animals Dream? It seems that they do. Watch your dog or cat sometime, and you can tell it is dreaming of running after something. Its eyes twitch, sometimes it moves its paws -- something is happening in its dreams. Scientists think that most warm-blooded animals dream. They have monitored goats, sheep, cats, dogs, rats, mice, monkeys and apes, and all had dream periods and symptoms--all except the spiny anteater, which seems to be a dream-free mammal. Probably the animal that spends most time dreaming is the opossum. TRIVIA: Hunting animals like cats, dogs and humans spend more time dreaming than animals that are hunted, such as cattle, rabbits, sheep and goats. Now you know.
