Benji Posted 2 October 2004 Posted 2 October 2004 one of micky's most used excuses is how teams just defend for the draw against us, so after hearing it a few weeks ago i looked more closely and i've got to say i agree i don't recall any team thus far coming to the match with the intention of winning or playing football bar west ham who had the extra man advantage dont think im making an excuse as im not, just makes me think that the level of football in this league is pretty dam awful! think about it this way... we play as badly as we do, but yet keep getting draws!! what does that tell you about the oppositions! but then i suppose this is one reason why so many people are frustrated, we should be hammering these teams but it's finally kicked in to people that its not easy at all. 2 seasons ago you had a fair few teams that would play some decent football against us, but this season the highly publicised premiership/championship gulf is very obvious. forget last years 3 teams going up and hoping to maybe get one team to survive, whoever goes up this season won't have a chance in hell if their currently anything to go by oh well, ticket prices are the same and all so maybe im imagining things and the championship football is talented
Bluefoxtim Posted 2 October 2004 Posted 2 October 2004 We dont win because teams are defending? errr? Surely MA would have worked out a way to break them down? MA has no tactical knowledge SACK HIM SACK HIM SACK HIM
Hoof Fox Posted 3 October 2004 Posted 3 October 2004 We got an early goal against Preston but we still didnt hammer home the advantage, that should have relaxed the team, whilst we played ok for the first 20 minutes we still resorted back to hoofball long before Preston equalised and we created very little from open play. We have the players in Williams, Connelly, Wilcox, Tiatto and Scowy who can unlock defences but MA chooses to play hoof ball thus denying these players the opportunity to express themselves and therefore they cannot stamp their authority on matches.

I dont think so, I believe the likes of Burnley, Watford, Brighton and almost every team in this League plays like that. By MA's reckoning no team should be winning their home games. When we had MON as manager we were often accused of using these spoiling tactics, they're not very entertaining but not illegal, and we relished in the success we achieved, the oppo had to develop tactics to overcome it, it's not new, teams have been playing this way for years. As a coach MAs should have sufficient experience to buy players and to adopt tactics capable of opening up this type of play. He has failed quite spectacularly to do this. Remember this is his team, his choice of formation and his tactics, we know he likes to get his own way and does, (e.g Taggart, Keown, Elliott) so he only has himself to blame for the absolutely appalling football that is being played.
