Reading's Run Wrecked

Recommended Posts

The End of season results mixs has started - funny results can happen anywhere

Luton Town ended Reading's long unbeaten record with a thrilling 3-2 win at Kenilworth Road.

Two goals from Rowan Vine and another from former Reading man Dean Morgan inflicted Reading's first defeat since the opening day of the season.

Things looked so different when Reading got off to a dream start, with Kevin Doyle firing them in front after just 18 seconds.

The visitors went close to doubling their lead on five minutes when James Harper curled his effort from the edge of the box just wide.

Luton drew level on 20 minutes when Vine worked a neat one-two with strike partner Steve Howard to advance on goal and the former Portsmouth man coolly clipped his shot past Marcus Hahnemann.

The home side turned the game on its head five minutes later when Kevin Foley cut the ball back for Vine to slot home from close range.

Luton were inches away from adding a third goal on 37 minutes when Howard hit the crossbar from just six yards out.

Reading had claims for a penalty turned down two minutes later when Doyle went down in the box under a challenge from Markus Heikkinen, but their appeals were waved away.

Luton grabbed a third goal six minutes after the break, with Vine teeing up Morgan to drill a shot past Hahnemann.

Reading poured forward in a bid to get back into the game, but Luton repelled their wave of attacks.

Steve Coppell's men set up a dramatic finale when Doyle headed home his second goal of the night in the final minute, but Luton held on to end Reading's 33-match unbeaten record.

The win boosts Luton play-off hopes and moves them up to eighth spot in the table, while Reading remain 12 points clear at the top of the table.
