davieG Posted 11 March 2006 Posted 11 March 2006 Is there anyway you can monitor your internet speed on a continuous basis with a visible counter arrangement? Like having an online clock.

Andy.lcfc Posted 11 March 2006 Posted 11 March 2006 I use a program called DU Meter. This is in the corner of my screen and tells me how fast i am downloading and uploading. It also contains information like how much you have downloaded in a certain month so you can easily see how close or not you are to going past your monthly download limit. If thats what your looking for try searching for DU Meter on google and im sure you can fin d afree download quite easily EDIT: Here's a link to download it free (taken from its website): http://www.dumeter.com/download.php

Therein lies the rub.
davieG Posted 11 March 2006 Author Posted 11 March 2006 Thanks all, i don't have a desperate need for it, it's just that I'm supposed to have a 2mb link (ntl) and sometimes I have to sit there waiting for the page to load, e.g foxestalk.

There are plenty of sites that will check the speed of your connection on a one off basis.
Chimp Posted 11 March 2006 Posted 11 March 2006 Thanks all, i don't have a desperate need for it, it's just that I'm supposed to have a 2mb link (ntl) and sometimes I have to sit there waiting for the page to load, e.g foxestalk. If you want to monitor your speed over a period of time then perform a speed test at regualar intervals... http://www.adslguide.org.uk/tools/speedtest.asp ...this will allow you to get a pretty good idea of the average speed of your connection. However, don't forget that the 2mb link is only between your comp and the nearest NTL swicth (or whatever) and that from there on, though the capacity of the line will be very much higher, it is shared by many people. There are also many places outside of the NTL network where a slowdown could occur as well. So, though you may have a high speed conection you will always face the occasional outage or slowdown.
