harpendenfox Posted 26 April 2006 Posted 26 April 2006 I haven't bothered to cut and paste the full article from the Mercury, but anyone else reckon this headline from today is a little overblown, given that our brave boys have taken us to the lofty heights of 15th in the Championship? I'm a fully paid up member of the things are going to get better brigade, but 'survival heroes' Give me strength Kelly to stick with his survival heroes by Bill Anderson blah blah blah
davieG Posted 26 April 2006 Posted 26 April 2006 Kelly to stick with his survival heroes by Bill Anderson The same players who dragged Leicester City up from the depths will be given the chance to round off their sterling efforts in style at Southampton on Sunday. City secured their Coca-Cola Championship safety much earlier than boss Robert Kelly first thought. But he will stick to his guns that end-of-season experimentation will not play a part as the campaign draws to a close. As City ended their home programme with a win to fulfil their obligations to their home support, there was a case for throwing in a few fringe men. However, Kelly said: "The ones who have done so well for us deserve to round it off at Southampton so, while there might have to be the odd change, it will be the same settled formation that got us out of trouble. "The way we have ended the season will have boosted the confidence of those involved. "And as the team is going to have to be very similar next season, it is as well they are given the chance to take that confidence away with them into the summer break by, hopefully, doing well at Southampton. "I said when we were safe that we would do all we could to get as many points as possible in the last four games, and that idea has not changed. "The settled team was a big reason why we were able to put a great run together, so there is no reason to break it up just because it is the last game of the season. It is still a game we are going to try to win." With only minor knocks to consider, Kelly is relieved that his team should be in fine fettle, the extra day helping any niggling worries to clear up. His adage since he took over in a caretaker capacity was 'if it is isn't broke, don't fix it'. He is also keen for those partnerships which have formed in recent weeks to be strengthened, especially the one up front between Matty Fryatt and Iain Hume as they will form the basis for next season's attacking challenge.
Guest Posted 26 April 2006 Posted 26 April 2006 We've had a shit season, and stayed up almost by the skin of our teeth in one of the biggest turnarounds in form since god knows when, but heroes? There's no glory, in my opinion.
phillcfc Posted 27 April 2006 Posted 27 April 2006 Absolutely true.Heroes wouldn't have got us in that position in the first place! That fuc*king bill anderson again.im sooo glad i dont have to read the merc whilst im at uni! For a start hes a spurs fan so what does he know about how we feel bout our club. That headline just sounds patronising. I cant wait for the day he goes and someone decent replaces him. for any non-leicester fans reading his sh*te, its just an embarassment to us all.
