Thracian Posted 25 July 2006 Posted 25 July 2006 Does anyone know if Simon Rayner, who kept goal for Lincoln, is the son of big Bob Rayner who used to manage/keep goal for Loughborough United in their Midland League days. Bob was a character. He took us all down to a strip do one evening as a pre-match loosener. You remember such things when you're 16! Anyway a pal of mine got called up on stage for some rather riskay gallivanting and it was weeks before he could shut up about it!. I'm not sure it did his game any good though.
Ric Flair Posted 25 July 2006 Posted 25 July 2006 Is big bad Bob Canadian? because his alleged son Simon is according to Lincoln's OS. A drunken fumble on a touring trip to Canada back in the summer of '83?
Thracian Posted 25 July 2006 Author Posted 25 July 2006 Not as far as I know. But the name was spelt the same which was what made me wonder. Come to think of it he would be a grandson anyway. Frightening!. So I guess the boys parents could have lived in Canada. Bob was well known in Nottingham football circles, might even have played for Notts County. Another ex-Loughborough player/boss who went into League football around that time (Sheffield Wednesday I think) was Richie Barker (I liked him cos he always picked me) and there is a namesake who now plays for Mansfield who I would presume is his son as he was born in Sheffield, spells his christian name the same and is also a striker.
