Craig Posted 29 July 2006 Posted 29 July 2006 It seems a virtually done and dusted deal for Derby - and I cringe to think we've missed out. Attitude problem? Lots of teenagers have attitude problems - my own teenaged son refused point blank to go to school for six years and had to be educated at home yet he seems to have turned out fine, positive, hard-working, adventurous, unfazed, good sense of humour, independent. I don't think I ever saw a winger more misused than Smith. Asked to play narrow, to exhaust himself tracking back, everything but what was wanted which was for him to occupy/disorganise the opposition defenders and threaten their goal. Whatever, he's gone and I bet bottom dollar he shines for Derby so long as they don't take the same approach. People can have the best attitude in the world but if their ability is limited it makes no difference. I never saw Smith as being some sort of impossible to handle head case. Just a kid with emotions. And we wasted him. If we signed a brand new George Best we'd have him scampering around in midfield trying to protect the defence and making us a bit harder to beat. You bore me more than a library.
