Football League Point Structure

Recommended Posts

The level of entertainment this season has been non existent, I can only see football getting less and less popular unless something it done about it. I used to get excited when a new season was coming up, but this year I was dreading another repeat of what happened last season and during the World Cup and hoping it wouldn't be another season of frustrating football. It looks that way again.

I remember the days when you used to get high scoring and random results every week. One moment I remember so well was when Sheffield Wednesday lost 7-2 away to Blackburn, then a week later they beat us 1-0. It was typical Leicester style but oh it was a lot more exciting than what goes on nowadays.

This is my (probably crazy) idea, keep the normal point structure...

3 points for a win.

1 point for a draw.

But if you score more than 3 (or maybe 4?) goals, you get an extra point. This will soon end teams sitting back and being content with a 0-0 draw away from home, or a 1-0 win. Because despite the win on Saturday, it was truly horrible to watch and not close to being worth the money paid to watch it.

4 points for a win (4-1)

2 points for a draw (3-3)

No more 4-5-1. No more defenders playing out on the wing. Less negative thinking managers. More emphasis on attack. The stadiums will soon become packed again and football will surely be back to it's best.

I think it's a great idea, but I can see far to many people oppsoing it to se it actualy implemented into the game. I think the amount of goal needed should be more than three.

Maybe they could test it in the group stages of the UEFA cup or something?
