Rincewind Posted 12 September 2006 Author Posted 12 September 2006 Two that stand out. The peasants were revolting in October but triumphed in November. Canaries derives from the Latin for dog 'canine' (?) Like some-one said it becomes obvious they are not all straight forward. I also knew the hundred years war did not last a hundred years but I could not say how long it did last. So just by knowing about four were not what you were supposed to answer I think I passed

Alexikokopops Posted 12 September 2006 Posted 12 September 2006 i think the panama hats come from paraguay as when we played them in the world cup they kept going on about it, catgut , is that from sheep? what was the name of the ship in "mutiny on the bounty" Ken's put the answers!! Panama hats are from Ecuador. The ship was called Bounty, it was originally called Bethia, so not sure if that's meant to be a trick question i was told that "fido" is latin for trust or faith and was a common name for a dog , is this true? Fido means "I am faithful" if I remember correctly. I haven't done Latin for a while now, although I can reel off "The Witches Of Thessaly". What an epic that was.
Rincewind Posted 12 September 2006 Author Posted 12 September 2006 I thought Canine was a word related to canis in an etymological sense . My Latin is not up to spec seeing I am not one of the clever buggers on here that took it. DISCLAIMER I copied and pasted the questions so any errors made are to be blamed on the source not the kind person who put them on here.
