His contract expires in the summer according to skysports.com. He will be 34 in June. Not quite sure how to display the link (my computer skills are very limited) but in the article he fears that Celtic's team are breaking apart with many of the more experienced players coming towards the end of their contracts. I for one would love to see him return here, although I'm sure it's very unlikely. Now I know it would represent a step back and wouldn't allow players like Dawson to enter the set up but he was brilliant here. At 34 he would still have a couple of seasons left. Like I said I'm sure Craig Levein won't share the same enthusiasm but I wondered what others would think?

I think it would be a step back, the same with Guppy last season. We have to move forward and not reflect on past glories. Lennon was a fantastic player for us, one of the best in recent times, but we're entering a new era under a new manager and we need to look to the future.

I think it would be a bad move for LCFC not only for the reasons you said ie age and blocking the rise of younger players but also in my experience I suspect he would find it difficult to motivate himself and would end up being half the player he was, we would then lose respect fro him.

I understand what you are both saying but Scowy, Lennon is a completely different player from Guppy. When we bought Guppy last year he was not playing for Celtic and he was past it. I'm not saying Lennon will still have many years left in him but I believe for a season or two he could produce performances matching those in his previous City spell. After all he is playing week in week out at Celtic and until the other night was playing Champions League football. He is still producing big match performances whereas when we bought Guppy his form had been slowly deteriorating. Many players also gain different aspects to their games with experience and I think Lennon could lead City well next season. People like Stuart MacCall a couple of seasons ago at Sheffield United was magnificent and he was old at the time. He could play the Billy McKinley Fulham role and help develop the likes of Dawson. I would love to see Lennon back though

Good point, Samu.

But I tend to agree with Davie on this one regarding motivation. You even said it yourself, he's been playing Champions League football up until recently - If we stay in this divsion, then I don't think he want to end his career at this level. I've heard he wants to end his career in Spain.

Another issue is wages - He's on 30k a week at Celtic, and we can't offer anywhere near that. I'm sure he'll get offers of good wages over the summer, so I don't think we have any realistic chance.

We have Dawson waiting in the wings who represents our future. Lennon would just hold him back, we do need to look to the future, and Levein has already stated that. Lennon would probably do a decent job, but we shouldn't be so fixated on a short term outlook.

If we were to get promoted into the Premiership would you support him moving back here? I mean he has the Premiership experience and even though I am for promoting the youngsters you have to have experience in there too. If were did get promoted he may be able to provide some grit and determination needed to keep us up there. And we may be able to support his wages. But I do agree in this division there is no point and it is a very unlikely prospect anyway. But worth a thought...

Lennon will be desperate to leave Scotland at the end of this season, the personal abuse he has had to endure is unbelievable. The nature of the abuse will have scarred him as well, because it is all sectarian stuff and unless you live in NI or Scotland (sadly linked to the Old Scum) then you are sheltered from how nasty it is.

I don't think he will be the player we remember him to be as those experiences will leave a lasting effect on him. However, that said it might just be that he is totally refreshed away from all of that hatred and be as good or if not better.

But I do think it will be the former.

Maybe, but I think the Premiership has moved on since he last played in it. I think games would bypass him, he doesn't have the energy he used to have. Although saying that, McKinlay did a great job for us when he played, and he was 34/35.

I dont think age is the biggest problem it's more to do with attitude and that is ingrained in a person and affects motiviation, he could come over the all big I am attitude and preceed to stroll around the pitch posing and doing bugger all a la D Wise, or he or could find it difficult to get excited after being in the big league and that would apply to us even if we were in the Premier, If we were in the Premier he would find it a massive culture shock to suddenly be in a struggling team and we will struggle. On a final note although he's been performing OK at Celtic how does that compare to playing in England were every games is to a degree titanic.

Nice idea, nice thought but it should be left as that, sorry to disagee I just don't see the benefits for us or him.

Yeah I guess your right. I would hate to think that Lennon would have an attitude problem if he was to return though. He didn't seem that type of player. The idea of bringing Lennon back though, I must admit, was just me living in the past. I think back to how good our midfield was when Lennon, Izzet and Savage played together. It was one of the best midfields in the Premiership and since then we've had no one equal to them. I can only dream that sometime soon our midfield will be that good

Dawson, Joey and Williams could be prove to be our useful midfield trio if we ever revert to a 3-5-2...

I share the same dreams, I think people have very little control over their attiudes in those circumstances, the mind takes on a life of it's own. Denis Wise is a good example with Chelsea he spent his most successful years there and was a legend, could do no wrong and therefore felt comfortably. When he came to us he was a has been on the downward path and surrounded by LCFC legends in Muzzy, Savage and Elliott, didn't command the same respect as them, he expected everything to go through him and when it didn't his sub-conscious said I don't give shit. When he went to Millwall, with all due respect to them he was a big man again, king of the hill, everything did go through him his sub conscious would have said I'll have some of this and he would have been up for it.

The danger with someone like Lennon is, and you hit the nail on the head with "I think back to how good our midfield was when Lennon, Izzet and Savage played together. It was one of the best midfields in the Premiership" he would never, ever be able to recreate that, he's older and he wouldn't have Izzett and Savage in their primes. I believe due to fans expectations he would then feel deep inside like he'd failed no matter how good he was and would not therefore have the internal mechanisms to motivate. All my opinion of course, he could also come back and surprise us all but I for one wouldn't bet on it and would prefer him to remain as a good memory.

Hope you enjoyed todays lecture ;)

He will always remain as a legend and I too am happy with that. The only slight difference which leads me to believe his attitude would differ greatly from Wise's is that he is an ex City player. This club kick started his career and he would therefore have the greatest respect for us I'd imagine. With Wise he was already a Chelsea favourite and had no need to re-establish this image with a new team. But Lennon will always be a Leicester legend.

Oh sod it, you've got me excited at the thought now, sign him up :)

10 times better than McKinlay and McKinlay was decent.

Would love to see him back here, he would be motivated to play, I have no doubts about that.

Bloody brilliant player, best central midfielder we've had in many years, maybe ever!

It was Lennon leaving which signalled our demise. As well as paeter taylor. When Lennon left we had no one to boss the midfield. His replacements were "one for the future" Jones, and Junior Lewis and Lee Marshall Which cost 4 million between them

But the fact is he wouldn't come back here and i watched him on Tuesday and i know it was against Ac Milan but he looked about 5 yards of the pace and more overweight than ever. Dont get me wrong i like the bloke and respect him terribley but i think he'd struggle in the prem.

lennon is 1 of the finest players ever to wear the blue shirt but if he came back here and was unsuccesful then he would be remembered for that .im not sure how he would find the pace of the game down here as he gets to stroll around the park for celtic because the standard is shocking
