Brummie-FOX Posted 14 November 2006 Posted 14 November 2006 Colchester's new stadium could be completed by the end of 2007 after the town's council approved funding. At a meeting on Monday, the council agreed to borrow the finance needed to build the 10,000-seater Community Stadium at Cuckoo Farm. "They said there was no turning back now," said Colchester chief executive Marie Partner. Chairman Peter Heard added: "There is a proposed completion date of December 2007 which we're hoping to keep to." He added: "It's extremely important to be in the new stadium as soon as possible if we're going to compete with the bigger stadia in the Championship." The Us have been playing at their 6,200-capacity Layer Road ground since 1937, taking over from previous occupants Colchester Town. Cuckoo farm.. lol
Wils Posted 14 November 2006 Posted 14 November 2006 'Tis good news for them,i may have to pop along when its done. Layer Rd is dreadfull.
Brummie-FOX Posted 14 November 2006 Author Posted 14 November 2006 Im guessing Layer Road holds around 6-7000? And apparently the new stadium will hold 10000. It might be a decent stadium overall but only 10000. They could just extend Layer Road instead .... Right?

Its a very run down ground, parts of the ground are still standing too. 10,000 will be about right for them they wont need any bigger than that,Only a diddi place.
Joe. Posted 14 November 2006 Posted 14 November 2006 I'd love to go to Layer Road just to see what it's like, atmosphere etc.
Brummie-FOX Posted 14 November 2006 Author Posted 14 November 2006 Smaller stadiums get the better atmosphere. Just ask Portsmouth.
dandannieldanok Posted 17 November 2006 Posted 17 November 2006 Smaller stadiums get the better atmosphere. Just ask Portsmouth. Or get anyone to ask us, Filbo had a much better atmosphere than the walkers apart from the odd occasion like Villa in the cup.
Strokes Posted 17 November 2006 Posted 17 November 2006 Its not the size that makes it a good atmosphere, its the design, both anfield and st james park have generated terific noise at times.
davieG Posted 17 November 2006 Posted 17 November 2006 Or get anyone to ask us, Filbo had a much better atmosphere than the walkers apart from the odd occasion like Villa in the cup. That suggests it has very little to do with the stadium design and a lot to do with what's on.
Foxello Posted 17 November 2006 Posted 17 November 2006 Its not the size that makes it a good atmosphere, its the design, both anfield and st james park have generated terific noise at times. Plus the fans have to be bothered to make noise.
Guest Gist Posted 17 November 2006 Posted 17 November 2006 Plus the fans have to be bothered to make noise. Also when there are like 50,000 people in a ground it is likely to be louder.
Brummie-FOX Posted 17 November 2006 Author Posted 17 November 2006 Liverpool - Bigger Stadium - Bigger Team - Better Atmosphere Colchester - Smaller Stadium - Smaller Team - Good Atmosphere I think it's because Liverpool have great fans. Colchester have a small stadium but because they're in the 2nd tier, it'll attract more fans to get to the games. They're probably the Portsmouth of the Championship.
