Guest Posted 28 December 2004 Posted 28 December 2004 Taylor - 6 Stewart - 6 Dublin - 4 Heath - 5 Makin - 3 Gillespie - 4 Nalis - 5 Gemmill - 5 Gudjonsson - 6 Connolly - 5 Scowcroft - 5 Subs Williams - 5 Wright - 5 Morris - 5 I don't care if I'm a harsh voter again, but the players have got to start putting the performances in we deserve. Two matches in three days, freezing my proverbials off, and singing etc does me no good. I can feel another dose of tonsilitis coming on. I blame Chris Makin for making me shout so much.
Stuliasz Posted 28 December 2004 Posted 28 December 2004 Taylor 6 Makin 2 Stewart 7 Dublin 8 Heath 6 Gillespie 3 Gudjonsson 4 Nalis 3 Gemmill 5 Connolly 5 Scowcroft 3 Subs: Williams 7 Wright 5 Morris 5
rotherhamfox Posted 28 December 2004 Posted 28 December 2004 Absolute garbage, worse than boxing day. Taylor 4-Terrible kicking Makin 1-Thats generous, truly terrible Heath 5-Very average Dublin 5-Same as heath Stewart 4-Polo neck wearing gimp Gillespie 1-Wotta a tosspiece Gudjonnson 2-Proper crap, dunno wot he actually does Nalis 4-Even Lil is looking shite Gemmill 3-As fast as **** that lad Scowcroft 3-Did next to nowt Connolly 3-Same as 'The Mole'. Subs- Williams 6-Looked alrite i spose Wright 3-Sod all Morris 4-Sheep Shagger at end of the day A performance void of talent, skill, heart, passion, they just dont seem to care. Shockingly bad.
Anish Posted 28 December 2004 Posted 28 December 2004 It was simply a disgusting performance, and my ratings are going to reflect that. Taylor - 3 - for ****s sake learn to kick the ball into play you muppet. At least 60% of his kicks were sliced into touch and some kicks went soo long they went striaght to their goalkeeper. He set the tone and even the Sheff Utd fans besides me thought he was rubbish. Makin - 3 - his usual self again. Tosser. Dion Dublin - 4 - rubbish performance. The number of times that he had time to control the ball and pass it simple, but instead elected to hoof/lump it up to Connolly was idiocy personified. His defending for their first goal (along with Heath) was amatuerish. Heath - 4.5 - marginally better than Dublin, but still shocking. Didn't give the ball away as cheaply as others around him, but he didn't win any tackles or headers of note. Comical defending for their first goal along with Dublin. Stewart - 6.5 - top man for City again. Stuck to his task well, didn't let anyone down. Become much more solid and growing in stature. The only man that can come out with any pride today. Some silky skills towards the end, beating his man a couple of times and whipping in some excellent crosses. Gemmill - 4 - adds nothing to the team. Comes far too short/deep to collect the ball, only to play a simple and stupid sideways pass. No wonder we don't score any goals with him in the team. Nalis - 5 - started off quite well but the Utd players kept kicking him and knocking him about, which affected his play. Become far too anonymous in the end, and was merely a passenger. Gudjonsson - 4 - rubbish again. Gillespie - 2 - what a prat. His behaviour was simply stupid and childish. Deserved to be sent off and I hope he gets a 2 week fine for that. There is no place for things like that at LCFC - although I still think we would've lost the game even with 11 men. Scowy - 2 - abysmal again. What on earth does he do in training to warrant his starting position? Didn't win any headers, looks far too slow, and can't hold the ball up for love nor money. Connolly - 5 - usual self. Looks decent on the ball but even then doesn't know what to do. He ran the ball into touch on one occasion when in a good position. He stood no chance against Morgan or Cullip once Scowy moved to right-mid. Couldn't win any aerial battles and wasn't strong enough to hold of the defenders' challenges (though with his stature it's not really his fault). Connolly should have been put wide right and Scowy up front as a lone striker - that would have made more sense. Subs: Morris - 6 - did well when he came on. Looked lively and some nice touches. He was also in better positions than Connolly when he was playing up front - Connolly should learn a thing or two from him. Williams - 6 - did well also. Looked interested and was at the forefront of our creativity in the last few mins. Wright - 5 - did nothing really.
Scow Posted 28 December 2004 Posted 28 December 2004 Taylor 5 – Produced a few good saves, but his kicking is woeful. Always slicing it out of play. Makin 1 – He didn’t do anything right, and that’s being kind. At fault for both goals, where first of all he was dispossessed in the opposing half after taking too long on the ball, then his pathetic tackle on the opposing winger leading to the second. He backed out of a lot of challenges and his distribution was bloody awful. Always playing those mindless long balls up to Connolly in the air. Plus, his positional sense was poo. Dublin 5 – Solid at the back, but too many sliced clearances and passes when under no pressure. Committed himself like a twat for the first goal, where their striker cut in easily to avoid the challenge and hammer the ball in to the corner. Heath 4 – Awful, simply not good enough. Bullied far too easily and missed a lot of headers. Also gave away too many free kicks. The new Steve Walsh? Ha, fantastic. Stewart 6 – A bit hit and mix, did some really good things in the game, but then played some awful, careless passes. Gillespie 5 – Defended well down the right in helping that useless willy puller Makin, but let himself down with that pathetic push. Nalis 3 – Too slow, wasteful distribution and out battled. Needs to be dropped. Gemmill 4 – Same as Nalis, but did actually use the ball better, but mostly in a sideways fashion. Gudjonsson 3 – I don’t think he understands the phrase ‘ball retention’. He gets the ball, and tries to look for the killer ball with usually no success. Ran around like a headless chicken, and again looked too lightweight. Connolly 3 – A bit harsh maybe, but he didn’t hold the ball up very well. Although a lot of that was down to the crap service he received, but with his touch and ability, I expected better. Scowcroft 2 – Shit, shit and more shit. Had no effect on the game, his control was dodgy again, no real work rate, won nothing in the air, and playing him with Makin down the right was asking for trouble, although the Gillespie sending off sort of forced Levein’s hand. Passing was shite. Subs: Williams 6 – Had a positive effect when he came on, used the ball well and got forward to have some shots on goal, albeit unsuccessfully. Morris 6 – Looked lively when he came on, and caused their defence a few problems. Wright 4 – Did nothing.
Cobbo Posted 28 December 2004 Posted 28 December 2004 Well, if Makin is playing vs Burnley, something must be wrong. Please!
Stuliasz Posted 29 December 2004 Posted 29 December 2004 Hi everyone, a few things. Firstly a last call for ratings before I announce the results this evening. Secondly, I will NOT be counting the ridiculous ratings that some of you have given as these can drag down the ratings to a point where they just don't give an accurate impression as to how the players have played and I'm sure you can understand this. Thirdly, I will strive to get the half-season awards up before new year, but I am shorter on time than I thought, so I may have to abandon them and just give awards at the end of the season.

I feel they're quite accurate to be honest

Stuliasz Posted 29 December 2004 Posted 29 December 2004 The last thing I am trying to do is to censor the ratings, but just imagine this situation as an example, people are giving poor ratings of 4 and 5's across the board, giving each player an average rating of between 4 and 5. That's fair enough, then someone comes along and gives 1's and 2's across the board, it drags down the overall concensus and therefore NOT giving an accurate impression. Surely you understand that? If the overall impression of a certain player is that low, then that is general opinion and that is fair enough.
Anish Posted 29 December 2004 Posted 29 December 2004 I can see where you're coming from Sheff Fox, but certain players out there DID NOT deserve a rating higher than 2 or 3. So what if it drags their average down? It defeats the whole point of having a ratings thread if ratings of 2 or 3 (or even 1s) are excluded.
