Day One.

CHRISTMAS BLUES

In a war-torn town

On a cold Christmas morn'

Children huddle close

Trying to keep warm.

They have asked for no games,

No toys of fun.

Just for the gift of life.

And the silencing of the gun.

Others are more cheerful.

To continue.

Christmas Eve.. no excitement,

As the children go to bed,

No exchanging of presents,

But bullets instead,

They lay down their heads,

Desperate to dream,

Awaiting the inevitable,

Bush-friendly Regime.

Very good.

Number two

Not really Christmassy but the subjects are around more at xmas time.

LITTLE CHILDREN[

Oh what a joy

little children are.

Juice in the video,

sick in the car.

Untidy bedroom,

scattered toys,

girls playing nurses

with little boys.

Dogs' tails being pulled,

a cat's on fire,

interupting the moments

of love and desire.

Passing the blame

for their little crimes

playing with frogs

all covered in slime.

Screaming their heads off

in a plush restaurant,

having a tantrum

when refused what they want.

Arriving home late

covered in mud,

not going bed

when they know they should.

Non-stop talking

while dad's watching telly,

splashing the walls

with ice-cream and jelly.

Chocolate stains

on their Sunday best,

painting funny pictures

on grandads vest.

Why do parents' voices

echo from afar-

Oh! what a joy

little children are?

I wrote this little ditty back in November 1982.

I like winter,

Especially when it snows,

Reddy goes my cheeks,

And pinky goes my nose.

I hate it when the snow melts,

Or turns into slush,

The rain isn't pleasant,

I don't think about it much.

Not bad for an 8 yr old.

Number three. I used to do this on an acoustic night. Not sure now if it was a repeated request because it may be crap or that it was really appreciated.

Deirdrie Blues.

Oh Dierdrie, Oh Dierdrie

what words can I say

to express how I feel

when you are far away.

But Dierdrie when you are close to me

and I think of the things you do

my whole body starts to shake

and that's when I feel blue.

The sight of your gargoyle face

and the words that spit from your mouth

makes me break out in a cold, cold sweat

and I wish I was far far south.

Oh Dierdrie, it has to be said

the taste of your cooking makes me ill.

Your under-cooked roasts are really vile,

as for your soup, well! it's pig swill.

Your gas-like breath sends me to sleep.

Your toxic nagging drives me to drink. (pause to down a beer)

I don't know how much more I can stand.

Oh Dierdrie I'm dangling on the brink.

Oh Dierdrie when I'm feeling low

I think of the reason I married you.

Your fortune will be mine if you die,

So Dierdrie, my darling, please do. SOON.

Merry Xmas to Dierdies everywhere.

Number four

You may notice that not all these have a Christmas theme.

LOVE IN A SESEME BUN

her quarter-pounder eyes

edged with charcoal

coaxed me inside

her round succulent body

i savoured hungrily

as from table to table she rolled

a small gherkin green nose

sat on lips of tomato sauce

surrounded by a cheesy smile

baring mustard-tnged teeth

as my fingers touched

i knew it was burger love
