A few days sickness in 45 years and a general hiccup or two I could have done without at the same time is hardly reason to complain but thanks to you and anyone else for your concern.

I tried all sorts to get right but in the end the answer seemed to be laughing myself sore at the Jasper Carrot Christmas Rock and Comedy at the NEC last night...the perfect tonic.

Apparently he does something similar every year - basically a Brummie show with and a special guest or two thrown in.

I'd recommend it to anyone - four hours of belting non-stop entertainment.

And that Jethro - so funny. A bit lavatorial but even my Mrs was doubled up and it's not usually to her taste.

Just a sample:

Guy gets a call from the maternity ward that his wife's gone into labour. All excited he drops everything, he's straight down the hospital and through to the maternity wing.

"Well," says the nurse, "have we got news for you. That wife of yours has just given birth to four fine babies."

Four, said the guy with a smug grin. I suppose I shouldn't say this but it comes of having a cock like a chimney.

"In that case," said the nurse, "you should get it swept...

"The babies are all black!"
