I gave myself an asthma attack that day.

DOH!!

The paramedics were trying to drag me out, and I refused to go. Then we scored. I think they left me to it then.

Thompson was a great player, one of the best passers ive seen in a city shirt.

I found the videos (via google) on the official Swindon Town website - And from that very site:

The game looked like it was heading for extra time, until a long through ball sent substitute Steve White bearing down on the Leicester goal. As he entered the penalty area, he was brought crashing to the ground by City keeper Kevin Poole (OK.... maybe he dived a bit....), and the ref pointed to the spot. It was then left to Paul Bodin to send Poole the wrong way, and Swindon into the Premiership.

Just re-checked and I don't think it's actually the official Swindon site

spot on! it is, even though we lose, one of my favourite ever games purely for the fight back. as i type i'm stopping myself from going into a 'if the LCFC '07 team had a 10th of that fight and back bone' tyrade. so i'll leave it unsaid!:angry: <_<

Just watching those 3 clips made me realise some of the differences between then and now - And remember this was only the build up to the MON era:

Goal 1) A fantastic cross from Philpott (when was the last time any Leicester player made a fantastic cross?) - Steve Walsh on the end of it (I don't need to say anything about Walshy) - Our super fast stricker (Jock) being first to the rebound and hammering it home before anyone else moved (When was the last time a Leicester player was first to a rebound? - Ex-Leicester players don't count (David Connolly))

Goal 2) Philpott chases a lost cause and puts the ball back in the box (When was the last time any Leicester player did that?) - Steve Walsh - say no more

Goal 3) Thomo - Amazing composure and a precision finish (When was the last time any player managed both of those feats in one move?)

A further quote from that Swindon site:

Leicester replied quickly with a goal from Julian Joachim, and then, spurred on by their fans, they added two more goals in quick succession, from Steve Walsh and Steve Thompson

When was the last time a Leicester crowd spurred on the team?

I just watched the first six goals and must say those were fantastic goals in a fantastic match.

Couldn't click on the peno clip, though. For obvious reasons.

It says a lot about the inadequacies of our current sorry bunch that Lee Philpott can be held up as a role model.

Playing at a full house at Wembley for the prize of a place in the Premiership - might that not be an occasion to inspire ANY player?

I didn't go to that game but I have the goals on Danny Bakers Freak Football video.

...shivers down the spine every time , cannot think how amazing it must have felt actually being there when Thompson scored the 3rd. The crowd looks unbelievable aswell!!

Great memories there.

One of my fav memories from the old Filbo was when we played Leeds and I think we were 3-0 down at half time (they then had Gary Mac) and a Paul Ramsey brace helped us to a 4-3 win. Quality game and fantastic atmosphere was helped by two dudes starting a fantastic chant for Vinnie Jones. It must have taken ages to write..

"Vinnie Jones, Vinnie Jones, He`s a c**t, he`s a c**t" Absolute quality.

Can anyone remember the games against Newcastle around the same period when we were involved in 5-4s or 4-3s? Im sure they were both in the same season and I remember Mark McGhee and big fat Mick Quinn scoring loads.

January 1990 - Newcastle (away) - lost 5-4. Mark McGhee scored the winner for them with two minutes to go, after we'd been 4-2 up.

December 1990 - Newcastle (home) - won 5-4. David Kelly scored a hat-trick for us, and Micky Quinn scored one for them.

Yep - 96-97 when the game was on Sky and we were 3-1 up with 12 minutes to go. Then Shearer got a hat-trick and we lost 4-3.

The geordies were ecstatic that day (especially those in the City end) but we had the last laugh by winning a trophy that season, something they've not managed in the last 38 years... lollollol

lol Ultra, too true!!

You hear how bad things are these days but the fact is Leicester have had a Jeremy Beadle hand full of top ten Premiership finishes, won two cups and have had countless big games in finals at big stadiums and even Europe.

There is something about Leicester City which is hard to explain, Why is Mandaric coming to us instead of the likes of Stoke or Wolves??!! We are blessed and will become great. BTW, i am David Icke :D

More memories...

Tony James (I think) scores a goal that stops us getting relegated (against Oxford???) in late 80s/early 90s???

Dont try and tell Ultra that... he's been convinced all along that MM is here to asset strip and cap it off by dragging a gang of season ticket holders led by Birch back to Serbia to work on his underground salt mines.

You know I didn't even think of looking at the first 3 goals until now - I do remember that I admired Hoddle's performance on the day and thought he turned the game - Probably the only time I'll ever use Hoddle and admired in the same sentance

Good old Tony James, once tipped to be a future England International before injury ruined such a promising career. Hold on, that may have been Paul elliot I was refering too but they looked alike :)
