I would perhaps give him achance in the squad but there is no way he will break into the first team. I would like to see stuart Downing in the squad, I think he would give us the option of playing a traditional 4-4-2 if we wanted to.

Even if he performs out of his skin and this isn't just a run of form there is no way he is going to be any beter than a one goal in every two International striker like Michael Owen has prooved he is over a sustained epriod of time. Real Madrid fans are calling fro Owen to play instead of Ronaldo, he has been playing that well for Madrid. It really annoys me that English fans want to dismiss our best players as soon as they get to the top.

Alot of players can do it in the premiership and when put on the international scene cannot do it. Why not give him a friendly, see how he does. If he does well, he deserves his place instead of Owen or Defoe, surely?

No. Even if he could average a goal every other game for England over a sutained period of time, that would only make him as good as Owen. Owen is only a year or two older and is proven quality, why would we drop him on the basis that Johnson scoring in a friendly? Defoe has cored nearly as many as Johnson tyhis season and has doen it for three seasons ina row, he looks a lot more exciting than Johnson and is a far better alround prospect. He has slo doen well for England. We already have Smith as a reserve because he offers soemthign different to Defoe and Owen, as far as I can see Johnson could only ever possibly be a downgrade on them.
