daniel, just because you have some sort of fetish with him and him socring loads of penalties doesnt mean he should be in the england team

he's not international quality - enough said  :)

Wigan are not Premiership quality - Enough said. :)

We are all entitled to opinions and mine is that Johnson should be in the England team.

Great immature post their, resulting to being personal about being fettish. Just say this he is twice the player Wigan has. :)

I'm sorry Dan, I have to agree with TrickyTrev. When Phillips did ever so well, and Marcus Stewart did fantastic with Ipswich, it didn't result in them being played up front for England right away, and rightly so... although I do believe it was worth giving Phillips more chances. He just didn't make them count when he got them. As for Johnson, he's only had half a season in the Prem and although he's done great, he can't measure with the quality of Owen and Defoe and your oh-so-famous teenage darling. Calling him up to the squad and have a few training sessions should be good for the lad, and it should be a boost to his confidence, but you're not really in need of strikers in the England team.

I think that the countrys top scorer should be in the England team, thats's just how I feel and the reason I much prefer Scotland to England.

Excellent post - I was going to mention Phillips and Stewart until I read this. Beattie was in similar form for Southampton over a few seasons, but he showed he wasn't international class when given the opportunity...

I'm not saying Johnson will be the same, but I think we have much better strikers in Owen and Defoe, who are similar in style...

My view on Johnson for what it's worth.

A late developer, an honest to goodness hungry toiler. Has pace, but not searing pace. Has solid technique but can hardly be considered gifted.

As the season has worn on his goals to games ratio has come down markedly and there are a few spot kicks in that total. If he were still in his teens he would be considered an emerging talent (ie one that would improve) but he's nearing his peak. He should have done more at Brum.

In Rooney, Owen and Defoe we have a strikeforce that only the Brazilians can match. Probably the best we've ever had. Interestingly, all of them were prodigies.

And there's the rub. There's no room now for late developers. If you want to strike for England these days you've got to be a genius.

I think it would be great to see Andy named by Sven. It would give him and 'B' team others confidence to carry on playing and to further their career. It would also be a change to see diffirent lads given that chance.

But i cant see this happened because as others have point out it is hard to drop players when they havent done much wrong. Defoe and Johnson are both scoring goals at premiership level this season and Owen isnt getting a look at Real so the team shouldnt really include Owen but he is part of the England team just like Beckham.

Im not really sure what i want to say here, i keep going round in circles but we do have to many strikers trying to get in the squad, if only there were 15 players in the first team

He should get picked annd given his chance BUT he doesn't play for Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal, Real Madrid, or a 'big' club so he won't be picked or given his chance, even IF he is picked he'll just be there to make the numbers up besides Svens gotta pick someone to warm the bench because Walkers gone now!

Owen has scored 10 goals this season and Real fans want Ronaldo to be dropped for him. It is just WRONG to say he is not getting a look in. He is playing some great football and the competition for places is improving him as a player.

the guys a gr8 striker and he is from BEDFORD. I played football with both his brothers last year!!!!!!!!!

His record speaks for its self he scored the most leagues goals last year (englishman only) and same again this year. the only striker to score more league goals in the last 2 years is Henry so get him in the england team!

Huhhum I think you will find he is originally from Dunstable, where all the cool cats live. ;)

Owen also has the best strike rate out of all the strikers at Real. Quite funny to think that the Spanish press were on his back at the start, now they just can't praise him enough.

I think it was more the English press who were on his back, they have a liking of kocking our few world class players.

It is true that Owen has now been very well recieved in Madrid, it hardly suprises me. His movement is second to none.

I remember a Spanish paper rated one his peformances 0/10 - Sky Sports did a feature on the reaction from the Spanish Press in his early days there, and the response wasn't too positive...

I rememeber that now actually. His performances were poor at first, him being unfit, unsettled and out of form. I just expected more from the English press and a little patience in a proven player.

Spot on there Chandler, good post. Andy Johnson is having a purple patch, if he can maintain this for the rest of the season and take it in to next season then perhaps his portfolio will stand up to the national team's standards.

We've seen alot of players having a good spell at a team get called up for England and looked out of their depth. Now your right, it wouldn't do any harm in giving Johnson a game. But he's not going to knock Owen, Rooney or Defoe out of the team. The only way he'll do that is if he can score goals over a more sustained period of time.

Johnson might turn out to be the real deal and if he is destined to be the real deal, he'll continue to score goals over the next season or so and he'll eventually get his chance. SWP has only just started to get recognition and he's been playing perfect football for 2 seasons now.

Good things come to those who wait.

Shhhtop you guys, Andy Johnson's not ready yet.
