davieG Posted 27 January 2005 Posted 27 January 2005 Let's hope it's not another way of saying: ' when I've got my contract I can go back to be a lazy bugger again' <_< Gillespie targets new deal Leicester winger Keith Gillespie is determined to remain in manager Craig Levein's good books in order to earn a contract extension at The Walkers Stadium. The 29-year-old Northern Ireland international joined the Foxes on a free transfer from Wigan in summer 2003 with his deal due to expire at the end of the season. Gillespie said: "I'm out of contract at the end of the season so there's a lot to play for at the minute. But the manager has given me a chance and am grateful to him for that. "At my age it is important to be playing regular football and, fortunately, I'm doing that at the moment. I just want to play well in every game."
Guest Posted 27 January 2005 Posted 27 January 2005 from wigan 59608 Blackburn, Wigan, easy mistake to make, isn't it?
BartonFox Posted 27 January 2005 Posted 27 January 2005 I remember a previous right winger suddenly turning it on in time to be awarded a new contract. Andrew Impey <_<
Scow Posted 27 January 2005 Posted 27 January 2005 If he continues to play well until the rest of the season, I would have no problems in offering him a new contract. You could get the Impey scenario, but you have to take a risk. I think Levein is getting the best out of Gillespie because he believes in him. Adams didn't really give him a fair chance by giving him a run of games. We could all see that Gillespie was a bit slow to start off with under Levein, but he's getting better with every game.
Scow Posted 27 January 2005 Posted 27 January 2005 We could put him on short term deals.... 59645 Levein wants to look long term, so he'll want to secure players on deals longer than a year I imagine...

He clearly has the ability and CL seems to be able to tap into it.
