davieG Posted 27 January 2005 Posted 27 January 2005 Bearing in mind that when LCFC won this few times not so long ago, it was sneered at by the media and other clubs both big and small. Now we have a Chelsea v Liverpool final it's suddenly a chance for Mourino to win his first MAJOR English trophy. What do you think of it?
Guest Posted 27 January 2005 Posted 27 January 2005 In my opinion, it is a means to European football. The FA Cup is the 'biggy'. I wouldn't say no to winning it again!!
Sparky Posted 27 January 2005 Posted 27 January 2005 its a good chance for "lesser" teams to get in to europe if the big guns play weakened sides but this year to have liverpool chelsea and man u in the semis shows that those teams have taken it seriously for a change
Scow Posted 27 January 2005 Posted 27 January 2005 Up until the semi final, both Liverpool and Man Utd had been fielding weakened sides, whereas Chelsea have fielded a strong side throughout the competition. You don't get teams winning the competition calling it the Mickey Mouse cup...
dan_84 Posted 27 January 2005 Posted 27 January 2005 3 years ago i would have said mickey mouse, but if you look at the last two years, now id say major trophy, just look at the side both man united and chelsea put on show last nite.
Samu Posted 27 January 2005 Posted 27 January 2005 Well I think Chelsea have changed the competition by fielding full strength teams under Mourinho. I think the likes of Man U field weakened teams in the early rounds with the knowledge that if they lose they can fall back on the weakened team excuse. If (as is often the case) this weakened team progresses then they can continue to use this team. Then if the team reaches the quarters or semis then they tend to bring out the big guns and go for the cup. As for the mediocre Premiership teams it is a great opportunity for a place in Europe, as Leicester proved.
Wellman Posted 27 January 2005 Posted 27 January 2005 Gets you into europe which means more money. Also it's a chnace for smaller clubs. Take Watford for example, into Semi's and have got themselves loads of money
Anish Posted 27 January 2005 Posted 27 January 2005 Looks like I'm the only one to not take the competition seriously. In my defence, I was only talking about it from the perspective of LCFC...we were never going to win in and haven't looked likely to do well in it for a few seasons now. I think it's more important for the lesser PRemiership teams, who realistically do have a chance to win it.
Ash Posted 27 January 2005 Posted 27 January 2005 Gets you into Europe which can mean alot for some clubs
Leicester_Mad Posted 27 January 2005 Posted 27 January 2005 when we won it Man Ure fans were saying "mickey mouse cup", now they feel grieved they didnt get into the final? ::
Nationwider Posted 27 January 2005 Posted 27 January 2005 If the fan's are willing to fork out £Â£Ã‚£'s to see their team in the Cup, whether its Chelsea or LCFC, then it's a major trophy in my eyes. The arrogance of some managers putting out youth teams really annoys me. The clubs still charge good money for tickets/programme/etc and then send out the kids to get slaughtered, a la Liverpool v Burnley (ok, FA Cup, even worse!) last week.
davieG Posted 27 February 2005 Author Posted 27 February 2005 Well we won the Worthless Cup, but it's now Mourino and Arambrovich's (sp) first Major Trophy for Chelsea and a return for his £200million investment. Well according to the Media.
