RedOnRed Posted 30 May 2007 Posted 30 May 2007 The word is in the local papers down here is that ex Leicester City player and one time manager contender Mike Newell is the front runner at the moment to get the vacant job of MK Dons manager...oh imagine the irony. He certainly wins my vote for what he achieved at Luton and he's a manager that has actually conclusively turned around a club and won promotion, albeit on a slender budget too. He does carry a bit of baggage though, but under the circumstances it's definitely a trade-off I could live with and that's inspite of all his bung whistle blowing when in actual fact he allegedly had a clause in his contract that entitled him to take 10% of any transfer fee received for players sold while he was manager - which he reportedly received £500,000 from Luton as a result of.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 30 May 2007 Posted 30 May 2007 This is all turning into a bit of an MK Dons love-in innit? Newell would be great for you IMO.
RedOnRed Posted 30 May 2007 Author Posted 30 May 2007 There's no reason why he couldn't do here exactly what he did for Luton 20 miles down the road and with added bonus of most likely bigger resources and definitely a fantastic new stadium.

Yes but it wasn't a bung it was a legitimately negotiated clause in his contract. They must have wanted him badly to agree to it and it was an incentive for him to ensure any deals were effective. Also as it wasn't his decision to sell those players then he's hardly at fault over it. He wasn't criticising people earning large sums of money from football just those that were doing it illegally therefore not paying tax on it and distorting the transfer negotiations. Since his ex Chairman, i think it was has now admitted taking bungs I think he's been vindicated. His thoughts on women officials well that's another matter all together.

Spot on mate but it won't stop some people accusing him of hypocrisy for profiting out transfers whilst at the same time denouncing those that take bungs. At the end of the day, neither are really illegal so it's all about ethics and accountability, especially when a club like Luton can ill afford to part with cash at all. OMFG, i'm talking myself out of things here.
