Player Ratings v Ipswich

Walker 6 – Didn’t look commanding for either goal conceded. Apart from that, he did what was required of him. He wasn’t tested much in all honesty.

Makin 4 – His distribution was much better than usual, but defensively he was inept. He allowed Currie far too much space to get deliveries in to the box.

Dublin 6 – Solid at the back, dealt with Kuqi well (apart from the goal). He played a terrible passes though, which were thankfully not seized upon. Better than Heath anyway…

Dabizas 6 – Made some timely tackles and interceptions. He was up against Bent, and he restricted him to very few chances on goal.

Stewart 6 – Defended well, but let himself down attacking wise again. Crossing was slightly better, but he was frustrating some of the time by holding on to the ball for too long, then losing it. Great goal though, fantastic free kick that hit the underside of the crossbar.

Gillespie 6 – Lively performance down the right, had the beating of Unsworth and got some crosses in.

Gudjonsson 6 – Protected the back 4 well and covered a lot of ground in midfield. Played the ball more simply than usual, which meant we retained the ball better.

Hughes 6 – Very comfortable on the ball in midfield. Was full of energy – Got forward and supported the front two well. Good user of the ball, although he does seem a tad lightweight.

Scowcroft 4 – Ineffective. Missed a free header at the back post under no pressure in the first half.

De Vries 5 – A mixed game for him. Looked good in parts where he used his strength to push past defenders and create openings, but there were other occasions where he looked lethargic, with the ball bouncing off him.

Connolly 6 – Worked hard again, with a lot of his play deriving from the wide areas. Final ball/shot just wasn’t there.

Subs:

Stearman 7 – Looked very composed in the ball and defended confidently. Much better than Makin.

Tiatto 6 – Added some more bite and width to the team. Shame he didn’t/couldn’t start the game.

Nalis 6 – Played well when he came on. Kept the ball moving in midfield and nearly scored with another one his trademarks pildrivers.

He might have got the highest rating, although that doesn't mean he was MOTM - He wasn't on the pitch long enough really. ;)

I personally think that no one really stood out for MOTM.

I'd agree with that - although we created numerous chances and should've at least came away with a point, it wasn't the best of performances and nobody looked significantly better than anyone else in our team.

Walker - 6 - he could've dealt with the second goal better imo...the ball was well inside the 6 yard box when De Vries bundled it home.

Makin - 5 - better than usual, but still poor. The ipswich fans gave him some right abuse throughout the game and that didn't help his performance.

Dublin - 6 - not a bad display. Restricted their front 2 to very few chances but he could/should have picked up Kuqi for their opener.

Dabizas - 6 - dealt with Bent reasonably well.

Stewart - 6 - final ball lets him down again, but defensively sound.

Gillespie - 6.5 - gave Unsworth a torrid time, and the number of time Unsworth fouled him showed how dangerous he was.

Joey - 6 - kept the ball well and won a few tackles.

Hughes - 6 - good performance, not outstanding but did his job well. He gave a few short passes to Makin in the first half which led to trouble.

Scowy - 4.5 - another dire performance. Simply too slow and doesn't offer anything in left midfield. Didn't know where to run or what to do when he got into space.

Connolly - 5.5 - should have buried his chance in the first half, no question about it. Should also have crossed to MDV in the 6 yard box but instead chose to shoot from an acute angle which Davis saved comfortably.

MDV - 5 - mixed performance. Looked lazy and didn't jump for headers when he should have. Also kept trying to turn defenders instead of doing the simple thing and holding the ball up. That said, he did do brilliantly to set up Connolly and did cause their defenders more problems than Scowy would have.
